personally as mentioned in the Flybe article in AW March 2003 i could see for a small airline such as Flybe the Q400 competing with the jets on shorter runs in the UK – ok maybee not as glamourous as the E145 which flies out of Leeds to a number of UK dests, but the SAAB 340 it replaced was nowhere near as modern as the Q400. I dont see why the general public dont give it more of a chance
that looks a very Uzbekistan shade of bliue on the 752 – am i right?
i think brazil is portuguese speeking and not spanish – although dont count me on that one
n/p with the help – anytime
cheers – just thought with the -31K designater she was built to company spec along with the B763s

not bad at all!!
…but as they say u learn from your mistakes – Trial and error, in the Dash 8 case the trial proved well, hence the large orders coming through!
hiya – GPIDS came into Leeds 2 days ago so it can’t be at lasham on any long term basis.
Softlad – cheers for that – i thought the desert rats would be the most likely 752s to be kept – what about the 752 they got new G-WJAN?
Olympic and AEBal (sub of Spanair) are the only european operators i believe
as said earlier i think BA had to cash in on the a/c due to the high number of cycles the a/c were having more than anything else – for example
0600-0700 LHR-GLA
0800-0900 GLA-LHR
1000-1045 LHR-MAN
1130-1215 MAN-LHR
1330-1430 LHR-AMS
1540-1640 AMS-LHR
1800-1900 LHR-EDI
2000-2100 EDI-LHR
Just for a roughg example if an a/c did this type of 8 sector flight a day – the schedule may not be realistic but for arguements sake, the a/c will have an 8 sector day – a high number of cycles
say it only flies for example 6 sectors a day
6 x 6 (we’ll discount a quieter sat) = 36
36×50 (2 weeks offline maintenance) = 1800 cycles p/a
1800 x 20 (no of years the early a/c will have been in serv) = 36,000 cycles
If the a/c are only really fliying night mail runs they may only fly 4 sectors e.g. Keflavic-East Mids-Cologne-Keflavic – approx 5 hours flight time a day
Does that seem a reasonable explanation of why the likes of DHL on UPS are taking them?
Yea they still have the CRJs – 4 i believe. They were due to get rid as soon as the RJX arrived, but as the project was cancelled they didnt have much choice but to keep them until they could undertake a fleet renewal policy again. The CRJs operate the Leeds-Belfast route, but recently the midday rotation has been increased to a BAe 146-2/300 due high demand.
There was talk after the RJX porject cancellation that the early teething troubles were starting to be resolved and they were becoming happier with the CRJ ops – was this just a grin and bear tactic?
no they are based in portugal not sure if its Lisbon or Faro tho – presumably not Porto tho?
an interesting day the Wys – makes nice reading for us!
