Had my first visit there today, and was thoroughly surprised – a few biz jet movements and the odd mil through, speaking with the gents in the tower it sounded like they have a fair share of variety routing through for BAe/Airbus.
No problem Preston, 😎
There’ll be another time. 😉
Hopefully – Paris!
Unfortunatly for the first time I’ve had to give backword on this call, had prior arrangments involving a PA28 id totally forgot about!
Soz chaps, maybe next time!
Hows about TAM OF Brazil with 330s – white TAM on Red background, 2x 330s usually in together.
Don’t want to sound pedantic, but it orbits Saturn actually!
No probs – glad to be corrected!
Oh dear……. 🙁
I can’t understand why they never adopted the silver, black and white “Greek warrior” scheme that G-ZAPN wears across the whole fleet – you know, the one that looks a lot like the US Airways livery.
At least it’d look professional.
As you say that is the best livery then have used!
That moon, or planet, or whatever it is, spoils it.
Im presuming that is the Moon by the name of Titan that orbits Jupiter.
Sounds like Privatair for the first two http://www.privatair.com but they don’t operate either of the types you describe?
Could you have mistaken the A330 for a Boeing 737 with winglets from your speeding train perhaps ?
Privatairs Ops are from almost always from LBG – same handling agent (themselves) as we use.
The blue aircraft are Star Airlines.
So if a 747 had to divert from MAN for example without LPL where would it most likley go?
BHX?? or LON? or neither lol
The 747s are known to come in occasionally – the problem was during the 2001 airlift the damage caused a bit of a backlog of delays after a 747 departure whilst the work team patche dup the bits, so the airport are apparently granting PPRs to operators bringing in aircraft of A330/A300/B767 size this time.
Diversions are slightly differant, and if a request was recieved early enough they would allow it in, if not it would go somewhere else – there is only 1 designated 747 stand at LPL, and on the good divert days you are more likely to see several E145/DHC8/JS41/A748 size aircraft as at a push you may b able to get five of these on it. If this is taken I doubt they would bring one in.
a good posting! I saw the DC7 last in 1999 when it was in Airtours c/s for the new hotel. At one point we looked at buying into the hotel and went on a tour – at the time I was at a stage where I logged everything and the rep even took us on a tour of the landing strip at the side of the hotel so I could log the Cessna’s there!
Is the strip still used?

Ah – but were the B767s in question operating at or near MTOW?
I doubt it, to be honest.
Anything in Europe isn’t a problem for the Widebodies usually – for instance the last cup final in 2001 had a couple of 747s, DC10s, L1011s etc gunning out.
The runway is longer than Leeds’ by a fair share which sees a based B767 going to many Sun spots around 4 hours in length – and day trip footy pax wont have bags!
Recent widebodies I have seen on inter European flights include:-
Tarom A310 to Romania,
LTE A330 to Germany,
Britannia and BA 763s on several services,
BA B777 with PM onboard

Ah work
Should be real interesting in a couple of weeks for the Cup Final – heres hoping for Widebodies – interesting ones at that!
On a serious note though things are getting more interesting there, a little more variety has crossed in over the last year – with large numbers of Ryanair and FlyBe’s, to add to the new services from the last year or so from smaller operators including VLM, Emerald, Air Wales, Aer Arran and Wizz, plus the A320s of Aer Lingus on scheds (previously were regular charter visitors) and more sightings of EZY 319s!
Have you been down to the Dungeon Lane area before Grey for approach shots? Might be worth a visit for you at some point – plus no Car Parking fees!
