Another good report – ta!
I think ‘YC’ is the same as ‘YS’ without titles as these aircraft both wore the 0870 telephone number down the side of them? I think they removed the phone number but never put the large .com titling down the sides?
Haven’t seen it before, but it’s been a few weeks since i have worked a friday night shift – i am aware that excel are scheduled to commence operations through Liverpool as scheduled services. Will have a word with the guys in the know when I am on shift tommorow… if i remember!!!
Wot operated the LPL flight?? 733 or 737-700?
I think it’s the -700. The -300s operate BFS and AMS in the mornings.
The Jetstream 41 is certified into LCY. I think British Regional used the type from Sheffield City into London City.
As for the LCY and Frankfurt link i bvelieve these may be true. As the airport has been asking customers via the website with questionaires of the London and German links this would give further backing.
Bristol was operated previously by both Gill on the Shorts 360, and BA. Those were the days when BA had 5 Jetstreams based at the airport, and was one of the routes that was dropped by Eastern. The BRS ad LCY would facilitate an extra based Jetstream 41 unit.
bmi may well now have the spare Embraer equiptment to start the Copenhagen and Frankfurt under the star alliance banner. Previously there routes had been blocked by its partners as it would take traffic away from Manchester operation by SAS and Lufthansa respectively. However that said the Copenhagen run was previously operated by Fokker 70 aircraft, which at the time prooved too large for the operation. This too would have to facilitate another based unit…
Jet2 ops, all good lo-co destinations and all have been rumoured for some time now. The CDG run would in my opinion be supplimentary to the buisness product offered by bmi, much in the same way the Amsterdam run does with KLM, but the Amsterdam is also a hub feeder route, which wouldn’t apply to bmi. If the prices and timings are right then i could see all of the prposed routes working, Rome particualarly appealing to me! Again another based unit…
3 more based units at an airport with 17 stands. Based aircraft at present include 6x Jet2 B733s, 3 bmi F100s, 3 bmi E135/145s, 1 KLM F100, 2x Eastern J31/41s, plus the Britannia B762 and MYT/SSV A320. Where do they intend to park these aircraft!
With easyjet now operating LPL-BSL it’s one place i’ve really been thinking of visiting at some point!
Cheers for the piccies
I think the last tristar i saw was an Air Luxor example at MAN when FC Porto visited for the champions league. I sure too wouldn’t mind a jolly one one of those machines!
Didn’t quite realise how the traffic had picked up through PIK nowadays – great pics there!
And i thought the SD-360 was the biggest shed :p
Britannia have a based B752 – Currently G-BYAH.
Mytravel flights are operated by a Monarch A320 – this week has been G-MONX and G-MPCD.
if that parked outside the bar bit that would have taken up at least 2 Easyjet bays and is the taxi-way wide enough for it
The Boeing 747 would never be parked up by the terminal as there is only the one designated stand (Stand 14) which can take its full dimensions without closing a taxiway. Typically on a weekend you will find three Emerald HS748s on the stand.
As for visiting aircraft, last night saw AN26 YL-RAB visit on a car parts charter (vauxhall i think) from Germany. Nothing much else of interest has been in in the last couple of weeks 🙁
My first work experiance was in Year 10 at school amny moons ago. Here i hunted high and low in the industry, and spoke to virtually every operator through Leeds/Bradford for this 2 week placements, but to no avail! I later tried a small heliport around half a mile from the airport at Coney Park, and got a 2 week placement with Heli-jet aviaiton. This mainly comprised of working in ops and taking pleasure flight bookings, along with helping out when we had visiting helos. Over the 2 weeks the best bonus was the flying. 3 sectors were achieved in the R22 and one in the MD-500E. Afterwards i went up through the summer at weekend helping out on pleasure flying sundays every now and again – and with that getting a B206B3 Jetranger sortie in too! A great first step into the industry…
When I moved on to Sixth form i opted to try off my own back for a placement in theoctober half term, something good to go one my CV. By this time Leeds wasn’t my only option for travel, Manchester came into the equation. The phone calls began and the e-mails typed, and after a good 3 weeks work in the August i managed to get a placeemnt for 10 weeks later with Air Atlanta Icelandic at Manchester. In this time is spent 6 days with the company, 4 of which were in Ops, and two shadowing the flight crew on sorties to MAN-TFS-MAN-AGP-MAN in the B747-146B TF-ATE. An excellent week which proved very useful when i left school and moved into he industry.
Keep trying hard, e-mail everyone, and every now and again something will crop up. Don’t just go for the biggest and most glamourous operators!!!
As for the THOMSON.CO.UK flights all aircraft will retain a smal “operated by Britannia” marking on the front of the aircraft.
The Peel airports group seem to have a fair few deals going around with the Thomson group. They had a deal to bring them into Liverpool when Airtours were the only based operator, they have had a huge deal going with the Britannia Summer flights and the Thomsonfly operation which are proposed at Doncaster-Sheffield-Robin Hood and his merry little mens international airport!
First services today on the based aircraft were MME-ALC-MME-BFS-MME-PMI-MME i believe!
Good luck!
EDI has 3 HS748s rotating through from Emerald each evening. One of these being a BFS-EDI-CVT-BFS Parcelforce flight, and the other a LPL-EDI-LPL mail flight. A futher flight is operated out early morning to ABZ and returning early evening on behalf of DHL.
The old system, as stated above, would be for CT2 to offer services to it’s customers using seat capacity from other airlines and tour operators on thier chartered aircraft.
