Au contraire TwinOtter – most of the Vulcan documentation has been around for years and years. That’s why I used the most useful drawings in my books!
Nashio, Airframe manuals for both the Vulcan B1 and B2 are currenty available on CD on Ebay for a few quid if that’s any help.
Hope you post-up some pictures of the build in progress – that would be interesting to see.
He contributes to the Flypast forum too!
I’ll have a dig through my files to see what I’ve got but I suspect that I only have the Vulcan Aircrew Manual now. But if I find anything useful I’ll let you know:)
I thought the term had first been applied to the Swordfish?
Yup, it’s not at all bad. It certainly looks like a TSR2 but it’s not exactly over-detailed so I hope some companies produce some add-one details. The only real problem is the overdone surface detail which looks ridiculous when compared to the real aircraft. But hey it’s a TSR2 so who can complain.
I’d reached much the same conclusion. Whatever name was finally chosen for the aircraft, I’m assuming it would have been the S.Mk.1 as the “S” term was evidently “in vogue” at the time to denote “Strike”. If it had come into fashion sooner it would doubtless have been applied to Vulcans and some Canberras too, but it dropped-out of fashion again before Tornado came along. TSR2 was around at just the right time though.
Peter I’m not starting any rumours thanks very much – I’m merely stating a fact. I tried to contact him twice without success and I also tried some weeks ago. Likewise I notice that very little on the website has changed in a very long time. What are we supposed to conclude?
You can’t say a damned thing on these forums without somebody taking issue:D
I tried emailing Charles on the website address a couple of days ago. Seems his mailbox is full so emails get booted back. You get the feeling that things ain’t going too well.
Amaterurish or not, you have to congratulate both groups for actually doing something, even though I fear they’re wasting their time.
I don’t think this saga is ever going to be resolved until the people that are running TVOC go, and then there’s an opportunity for others to hopefully come along and do rather better. The sooner these people go, the better, in my opinion.
Pleming and co. had the nerve to use the credit crunch as an excuse for the lack of the much-promised sponsorship and yet millions (50 wasn’t it?) have been found to rescue a painting for the nation today and the best TVOC could do is 250k?
It’s gone on for too long. Let them run the project into the ground and then they might just disappear and leave the aircraft in the hands of people who actually have a clue.
Oh well, at least I had the amusement of being referred-to as “that damned Chox” on another forum. Bless – same guy then went-on to suggest that maybe the MoD could pay for 558 and have it flying in some sort of memorial flight – I kid you not!
I’ve been in email contact with Ian over the past couple of weeks a few times. He’s heading back to Thunder City for a visit next month.
To be honest i have neither the time nor the energy to persue it further.
And therein lies the problem – TVOC seem to think the same way! Madness…
I also was told today that the HLF have been asked but they told us to ****** off.
Told by whom? What did TVOC actually ask and what, precisely were they told?
It’s fine for someone to give you a throwaway comment like that but it doesn’t tell you (us) much does it? More to the point, as you know, HLF said (in writing) that they had not been approached by anybody…
Let’s be fair about this – you have to congratulate the guys concerned for trying to do something. I sympathise with them of course but you have to conclude that it’s just pointless. It’s not as if they need a few hundred pounds. It’s a huge amount of cash they need and quite clearly they’re not going to get it through collections. There are only two options – either someone miraculously donates another big pile of cash (which, given that it’s only happened once a long time ago, is unlikely to happen again) or they try and persuade HLF to fund the project again. It really is that simple – nothing else is likely to work. I know that every time I mention HLF people throw-up all the old reasons as to why this wouldn’t work but so what? What other possible chance is there? TVOC should be putting all their efforts into campainging for more money from HLF. As it is, they haven’t even bothered to ask. So they might as well give-up, go away, and let some other people have a go who might have a less amateurish outlook.
Bless, I know they must mean well but somehow I don’t think driving round some aviation museums in February is going to raise three quarters of a million quid.
If TVOC can’t even be bothered to try and get some further funding from HLF (their only – tiny – chance of solving this saga) then they might as well forget it and put us all out of our misery.
Mjr, perhaps your “wrong” comment was directed at the post previous to mine – think that might explain what you’re talking about? Naturally, all the talk of losing consciousness and so on is neither here nor there if the aircraft had already stalled, entered into a tumble and broken-up!
