Even if so, how do ou create MDFs without data?

The same way that BAE works on sensitive US systems, by creating fire-walled companies on Host-nation soil.

France is just butthurt that they will not be able to look at the 5/2-Eyes related intel as they create the MDFs.

Who said it was the French Gov that made the decision?

If 5 Eyes is a disqualifier then France would never be able to sell complex weapon systems to 5 Eyes nations. Since they do sell them, then I would say that the requirement was an excuse to save face.

It’s called the JPO for a reason as each country has members in it at every level. They decide (as a whole) what will be included in each Block upgrade, what it will cost, and who will pay. Do some members carry more weight than others, sure, but that does not take away from the fact that the information related to the process is known by all involved.

As stated, Partners pay to have their specific systems installed.

Block 4 will (or likely to) bring new weapons:
UK Meteor
Norway JSM
Turkish SOM-J & HGK
UK ASRAAM
UK Brimstone
UK Spear 1 & 3
Likely some Israeli weapons & ESM pods, etc.

New Features like:
The drag chute
Possible inclusion of P&D refueling for the A

All of these things are only for Partner nations so they will bear the cost of development & integration.

TR3 will not come until AFTER IOT&E. The new hardware is needed to support the NEW functions that will be added to the F-35 in Blocks 4.2+ & 5. Things like SATCOM, DIRCM, Cooperative EW, increased internal AAM, and improvements to existing systems like EOTS, EODAS, ESM, Radar, etc in addition to things they have not even announced yet. Basically, TR3 will need to support all of the advancements to the system through 2030-ish.

OLED was used to get rid of the “green glow” issue in the helmet that the USN did not like and wanted to be eliminated prior to IOC for the F-35C. It had nothing to do with the main displays.

We have and are wasting BILLIONS by slowing the pace of purchases. We should have started Block Buys (no, not Multi-Year contracts) years ago.

Any F-35 bought today will arrive in Block 4.1 config and in a couple of years (2020 buys), that will be Block 4.2 (with new hardware TR3 upgrades).

Any “found” issue will be fixed, just like it is for every fighter, ever.

Funny that you mention the lack of more than 4 internal AAMs but seem to not have a problem with the EF not having an AESA or that it still relies on an ACTIVE MAW system that is basically a giant “I’m over here” beacon.

The limit of 4 internal was a limit that all the Partners agreed to. It’s only a problem for fanbois.

btw, The initial Belgian order will be Block 4.2 (2023 delivery) so it’s not a problem anyways.

Belgium picks Lockheed’s F-35 over Eurofighter on price

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Belgium said on Thursday it had chosen Lockheed Martin’s (LMT.N) F-35 stealth jets over the Eurofighter Typhoon to replace its aging F-16s, in a widely-anticipated decision, saying the pick came down to price.

I don’t think they will be doing SRVL or STOVL with that much on the wings.

Besides, the Roll posts are more for control rather than lift so a little obstruction should not be an issue.

Nearly a day after the Pentagon grounded all U.S. F-35s, the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit and all three active Marine air wings are back to normal F-35 flight operations.
