It just did. There was not need to disengage anything. The F-35 is designed to go up to 50 AoA under normal operations. Why is that so hard to understand?

The F-35 retains full control well beyond 20 AoA as the spec is to remain in control at 50 AoA, not just “coasting” at 50. You do not need TVC to have a high AoA as the YF-23 showed. You just need large control surfaces and a good FCS.
If you have a credible source that says otherwise, feel free to post it.

This aircraft will be used to conduct a full spectrum of aviation operations in support of combat missions and maritime readiness worldwide
I hate to break this to you (who am I kidding 🙂 ) but the F-35 is in production and will see IOC with the USMC by 2015. The USAF has also stated that thy could use it operationally in combat (if needed) prior to IOC.

The coatings and the idea that they are somehow a contributing factor to the 150nm SC dash @ m1.2 is quite frankly hogwash considering that the F-35 spec is for m1.6 and it has reached m1.66.

Besides, it took direct heat from prolonged afterburner use to damage the coatings on the inner horizontal stabilizers and you think air friction alone is going to damage the coatings elsewhere on the F-35?

You’re reading too much into that. The F-22’s spec is for a higher altitude & faster speed than the F-35 will ever see.
That’s like saying that the F-22 canopy will melt at mach 3 (which it will never see).
There is no indication that the F-35’s coatings will have any problem with the heat, speed, and altitudes that it will experience on the F-35.

1/13/2012 – EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — A major step in the building the Air Force’s F-35A Lightning II training program was accomplished when the 33rd Fighter Wing completed the training and flying portion of the service’s operational utility evaluation on schedule Nov. 15.
Four pilots began training when the evaluation started Sept. 10, expecting it to last approximately 65 days. Six weeks of academic training and 24 sorties later, they are all fully-qualified F-35A pilots.
“We were able to conduct the flying portion in less than half the time than we planned for because things went so well with the flying, weather was good, maintainers were doing a great job getting jets out on the line and instructors were doing a good job of teaching these guys,” said Col. Andrew Toth, 33rd Fighter Wing commander.
From no experience to fully qualified joint strike fighter pilot was the hallmark of the success according to wing leaders and instructor pilots.
