Certainly not the one that you live under. It seems that you are assuming the inlet door issue is causing the transition issue. Could be the same issue, maybe not.
What you said was
This is the first time I’ve heard about this issue.
which implies that you have never heard of a recent issue, which the Oct 1st report is.
There may be others, but it also may be this.
@maus92
What rock have you been under… Graham Warwick reported on the STOVL inlet door issue at the beginning of October.
With the amount of energy available to that beast, I would not be surprised if it did not have a solid-state laser for self defense.
What I meant was that the FY2012 will put several issues to bed.
1. Does the $111.6 million F-35A price include money spent on long lead items.
2. While the $111.6 million does include some non-recurring costs, there may be more.
3. What is the final engine price. Unfortunately the budget docs put the Congressional F136 add into the same line item as the F135 so it will take some digging even after the FY2012 budget comes out.
Time until we get accurate LRIP IV pricing….. ie FY2012 budget release.
Yeah, I know… it should say FY2012. That’s what I get for doing it at 2 am.
Mod Edit: No hot linking, thanks.
They are not going to change the budget reporting process on account of the F-35.
Especially considering the news of the LRIP IV pricing.
F-35As that have the probe installed still retain their boom receptacle.
Which is exactly why I said they should have gone for it. I wonder if there were some other strings attached that were not made public.
There are several things to consider and unfortunately we will not know the answer till Feb.
1. Is the $111.6 million F-35A price the total price for the equipment specified? In other words, does it take into account the long lead items.
2. We know that the above number includes more than what is included in the flyaway price.
These per-unit target costs include some ancillary items not directly associated with building production aircraft, such as testing instrumentation equipment, says Tom Burbage, Lockheed Martin executive vice president and general manager for F-35.
3. The LRIP IV F135 should be around $13 million. It was $14.3 in the FY2010 docs before the F136 funds were added. Figure a 10% discount off of that.
The 20 F-35s for a 3 month freeze was an American idea. It did not originate with Israel.
Personally I think Israel should have gone for it.
If they were to freeze for a year, I would want a hell of a lot more than the F-15SE, I’d ask for the F-22. 🙂
I stand corrected……….I didn’t know it was planned on any Landbased F-35A. As I would told sometime back that only the F-35B&C would be so equipped?!?!?
LM confirmed the capability to put the probe on the F-35A and that Canada is interested.
“The airplane design can accommodate both refueling systems,” said Burbage. “Canada has asked us to look at putting the navy refueling system in the airplane and the air force refueling system is already in it. So it gives you a very high degree of flexibility if that’s the way it goes. You’ll be able to use all of your tankers; your probe and drogue and your receptacle-type refueling systems.
“We’ve always had the space to put the navy system in the air force airplane,” he added. “We’ve always expected that a number of the international partners who use probe and drogue-type systems would want the navy system in an air force airplane. That’s not hard for us to do.”
From what I understand the main difference is in the RAM. The stuff used on the F-35 is not as effective as the the stuff on the F-22, but it is much tougher. This is done to reduce direct costs and life-cycle maintenance costs.
Your forgetting that the price above does not include the engine or liftfan.
The liftfan adds 15-20 million to the price of the B that is offset somewhat by the increase in materials in the C.
In the end, that may be true.
But in the context of LRIP4, the B is the cheapest (airframe + support only, no engine or lift-fan) of all due to economy of scale. There were only 4 C models being made vs 16 B models.
