Again, luck had nothing to do with it.

The F-15s did not fall for the ploy and went for the Mig-25s.

If the Mig-29s had decided to re-engage, AWACS would have let the F-15s know and they would have been delt with.

Because Mig29 pair didn’t do their job in the first place. US pilot (mr.Pitts?), clearly states that both Mig25 were supersonic (check upper film again).
The idea was classic. Eagles were supposed to bite Mig29s and Foxbats with greater speed, were supposed to shoot F15s from behind.
Due whatever reasons it didn’t work, but those two Eagle pilots can consider themselves very lucky to avoid this trap.

There were four F-15s. Two could have gone against the Mig-29s and two for the Mig-25s. Luck had nothing to do with it, superior training did.

Also, four missiles were fired due to technical problems. Two Aim-9s missed due to flares and one Aim-7 failed to arm and explode the warhead. With newer Aim-9Xs and AMRAAMs, this will not likely happen again.

Because at this speed it can shot at you and get out of your engagement envelop faster, our interception profiles are designed for supersonic speed at high altitudes, if the target is lower it is a bonus, it will be slower and have less energy in tap.

The only thing extra speed will get you at the merge is a an AMRAAM in the face that much faster. Gone are the days of having to do a visual ID before firing.

    In MVC only.

If you are at high altitude, as you stated above, then MVC will never be an issue.

Point is; altitude and speed are what makes the F-22 advantages

I never said that the F-35 was better than F-22… that’s why they call it an Air-Dominance Fighter. However, the F-35 will be able to perform Air-Superiority missions just fine.

Why were the Mig-25s so low?

Again, do you have any linkable info where any fighter has been used in combat at greater than mach 1.6?

btw, why the heck would I want to do a mach 1.6+ merge???

One thing that I got from the above vids was that even in a head-to-head engagement, the range was very close due to ID issues. The EOTS should take care of that.

Also, why did the Migs never fire?

    Really?

So tell ME when was the last time any USAF F-15 did succesfuly intercept a Mig 25 flying at M 2.5 while doing only subsonic speed?

I am not sure about what speed these Mig-25s were going, but the F-15s never went mach and killed them both.

    Start at the 3:10 mark…

    Second half of the engagement:

It took so many missiles because the older AIM-9s could be decoyed by flares. This is not a problem for the 9X. Both Migs were downed by AIM-7s.

I did not claim the Metz 1600 mph info, just the F-15 info for which I did provide a link.

Try to come up with something that is not related to USAF, you still think the US of A is the center of the world, get an education. Please..

Well, since I was speaking about US fighters, bringing up the WORLD’s best, combat tested fighter is quite relevant.

If, however, you have some linkable information on how greater than mach 1.6 has been used in combat… feel free to post the linkable information.

Major General Charles Davis, USAF, the Program Executive Officer of the JSF program:
    http://www.livescience.com/technology/081107-f-35-fighter-jets.html

Davis, who was previously the program manager for the F-15 Eagle, explains that while the Eagle is a Mach 2 class fighter, it has rarely exceed the threshold of Mach 1.2 to Mach 1.3 during it’s entire 30 year life span. Additionally, the time the aircraft has spent in the supersonic flight regime can be measured in minutes rather than hours- most of the supersonic flights were in fact during specialized flights such as Functional Check Flights (FCF). “I don’t see how that gets you an advantage” Davis said, referring to the Mach 2+ capability.

The prices for the F-35s will change as the development progresses and the number of F-35s bought each year increases. Here is how the prices breakdown for each year.

In any given year, the F-35B&C models are more expensive than the A model for that same year.

If the current trend continues, the 2012 jets will be approx $100 million.

Google is my friend and from what I could find, it was a quote from a Discovery Channel interview.

I could not find an article authored by him, just articles referencing the interview.

No US fighter has ever hit Mach 1.6 in combat, so if the F-35 can do it if it needs to, where is the problem?

It is 140 mio USD for the A and even more for the intended B, when delivered from 2014. But that deadline has be passed already. When the people from LM do visit Israel to change the mind about that.

As they say, “The devil is in the details”. What is not known is what the 140 number is. It could be Flyaway (including non recurring items) or total weapos systems cost. The delivery year is also not known.

Btw, it only takes 2 years from buy to delivery. This will obviously get longer if they want their own avionics, which will make them more expensive too.
