It’s not just drag, but armed drag, at altitude & temp which means all they have now is estimates.

Per your own words you cannot assume anything unless specifically stated so GripenE is NOT EOL range. 🙂

Hmm. A surprisingly high number of spare radars (9), especially considering it’s an AESA, which is not supposed to be maintenance intensive..
Almost all equipment is very abundant, but at the same time, only eight CFTs.. This listing is kind of illogical, IMHO.

The only “not supposed to be maintenance intensive” part of the radar with respect to an AESA radar is the antenna. The rest of the package (ie all the LRUs like power generators, signal generators, processors, etc) would have the same relative failure rate as previous MSA radars.

As far as the CFTs go.. It’s only Kuwait, where are they going to go?

Wait.. Super hornets dont’s have CFTs. I think someone got The F-18 confused with the F-16 🙂

Think of the other side of the coin… The first “paper” range of the F-35A (ie the goals before 1st flight) was 690nm in the A2G profile but now stands at 625. Keep in mind these ranges are in the EOL timeframe as demonstrated range is much higher (see pilot’s comments about the ferry across the Atlantic).

The same is likely true of the GripenE, that being a “goal” of 800nm in max ext fuel and min A2A weapons, but that is likely going to be trimmed back as the flight test program gets going.

yes, i assume drop tanks and small load unless otherwise specified,
if there was ever a new fighter where flight characteristics was known down to the last decimal, that would be gripen E

So you’re assuming something that is not even part of any block plan at this point (external tanks), assuming that “Internal” means external tanks, and assuming that it’s A2A profile does not include any time on station?

You do know that because the Gripen E has not even flown yet that we “know” nothing about it’s flight characteristics, least of which would be range at a particular load.

with drop tanks and 2-4 AAM….
same configuration as gripen E A2A, except gripen E does 800 nm and then top it off with 30 minutes on station,
which translates into some ~ another 150 nm or so

um.. No evidence of tanks ANYWHERE in that presentation and it explicitly says “INTERNAL”. Why bother with internal if you’re using tanks??? :stupid:

You’re assuming the above F-35 pic has no time on station.

The Gripen E has not even flown yet.

We are not talking about combat capability of a BVR fighter here, Spud.. What we are talking about are the [let me quote Gen.Preus] “unbelievable maneuvering characteristics that make the F-35 completely undefeatable in an air-to-air environment”.

And since that is clearly utter BS, there is no single reason why would I, or anyone else, need to pay any attention to the other BS Gen. Preus has said..
    That’s all.. Have a nice day.. 🙂

Utter BS according to ?? You??

No thanks, I’ll put the experience of pilots over your opinion of an airshow display.

you can push F-35 out to 760 nm with drop tanks without weapons load…and thats the end of it.

Per the Israeli presentation.. 760nm, no tanks, A2A config

And when the 12 x F-35As go to Red Flag this month and kick a$$… What will the “it don’t work / can’t be fixed” crowd say then?

that could take years to fix”

Or it could be nothing serious like the hook fix.

I am not sure I understand your question.. Yet still..

    This is eye-watering maneuvrability:

Can it get more clear? Hardly

So your “evidence” of combat capability in a BVR Stealth fighter is… Airshow displays?? :very_drunk:

    Then you came back with

Frankly, the maneuvrability of the F-35 is not among my concerns.

    You are contradicting yourself.

Let me put it a different way. If you will not take the word of many in the program (from the developer, to pilots, to flag level officers where some are also pilots) as to the capability of the F-35 to do it’s job then what kind of “evidence” was given for the F-22 that convinced you that the F-22 could do it’s job?

    Evidence?

So, still no example of evidence from something like the F-22 that you would accept if given for the F-35?

    How about the F-16/15/18/Rafale/Eurofighter?

    Evidence is everything..

Give us a sample of the type of evidence you would accept from something like the F-22.

    Evidence?

Besides the multitudes of 1st hand experience that has been posted throughout the years and sworn testimony….

“I can tell you that it is by far the best platform I’ve ever flown in my entire life, and at that you would have to take me on my word.

Why is the F-35C the most expensive variant?

It is for the time being because they have not started the ramp-up of production for that version. IIRC FY2017 only has 2 on order.
