The AMRAAM family of AAMs has had several of the latest updates (ie C5, C7, D, etc) specifically state improvements in HOBS capability.
Considering that the D has a two-way datalink & GPS based INS and that we’re talking about a BVR missile needing to use motor time to change directions (and has motor to spare in the WVR fight), it won’t be an issue.
If your concern in TVC, don’t be as even the ASRAAM has great HOBS performance yet has no TVC or datalink.

If you can’t even understand the difference between WSC? ($148) and RecFlyaway ($85) or that the $85 only applies to the F-35A and not the B or C… how does this guy have a job?
He is also wrong in his assessment of what the helmet can do (as of F-35A Block3i & Gen3 helmet).
btw, The WSC has not been in the $148 range for years. As of the FY2017 budget it’s $113.

Let’s take a look at the COMPLETE opening paragraph to the test.
The test was designed to stress the high AoA control laws during operationally representative maneuvers utilizing elevated AoAs and aggressive stick/pedal inputs. The evaluation focused on the overall effectiveness of the aircraft in performing various specified maneuvers in a dynamic environment. This consisted of traditional Basic Fighter Maneuvers in offensive, defensive, and neutral setups at altitudes ranging from 10,000 to 30,000 feet MSL. The Flying Qualities criteria were that the aircraft response would be positive and predictable and that there should be no undesired, unexpected, or unpredictable aircraft responses. Qualitative observations were made regarding the high AoA capability, cues that the aircraft was entering a low energy state, as well as various human factors considerations.

Funny how when you read the WHOLE paragraph, you easily realize that the only reference to BFM was as a method to test the CLAWS logic and that the test was not about BFM itself.

You seemed to have missed this part about CLAWS and AoA being in the VERY FIRST sentence.

You also seemed to have missed the next sentence that said what the test was about.

In other words, it was a CLAWS test, not a BFM test.

You can’t change the fact that the document itself stated that the purpose of the test was to stress the CLAWS and that the F-35 would perform better when the CLAWS are relaxed.
I suppose that all the pilots are lying too when asked, even in a knife-fight with limited 7G and CLAWS, thth they still prefer the F-35.

My position as a technician that has worked on machines all my life is the fact that ANY machine that is supposed to be a do all, end all, all things to all people, ends up doing all those jobs rather poorly. This would include the F-35
So the F-16, F-16, F-15E, Rafale, Eurofighter, and Gripen all do their jobs rather poorly… Shame on them :stupid:

You are aware that the USAF’s (you know, the largest customer by far) requirement of a single engine was absolute, right.
The USN’s requirement of internal 2k bombs drove the bay size and deck space drove the length.
Those two requirements drove the overall shape.
The USMC’s STOVL requirements had little to do with it.
Funny how the norm “ie a QF drone not being shot down due to the AAM being either command detonated or guided to an offset” is now looked upon as something odd. PPL, very few AAM tests result in an impact, it’s just too expensive.
In the above example, two AAMs were shot but only one QF-4 was provided. That fact alone proves that that it was meant to survive as thy would have stopped the test after the first shot if it was a true “miss”.
The final nail in this ridiculous “survived” scenario… the photo’s caption reads “while a manned QF-4 trailed to ensure mission success”. If there was a live AAM anywhere near the unmanned QF-4, they would not put a manned QF-4 in the area for safety reasons.
