I was wondering that as well but not seen any eveidence as yet. As the Hurricane came into service earlyier that the Spitfire my bet would be that it did. The Blenhiem MKI also had a similar sight.
Thanks, I have found quite a bit in the Eric B Morgan Spitfire Bible its seems as you say it never made it to prototype, there are some good drawings in there and several pages on the subject.
As an aside was there a Spitfire type 306 ? its not in the listing’s i have but not sure if they are complete.
Wow thanks did any other earlier types of aircraft use this sight?
Dammit now you tell me !!!!!!!!!!! :diablo: anyway my shed is made from a Lanc and a Stirling joined together so It would not look right !
Pearing through the cracks in the walls there was an old winch lorry which I think was probably used to the raise the balloon I dont know if its still there. I saw a few crated Spitfires but cant get any more in my shed so I left them.:diablo:
The yard outside the hangar was cleared some time ago, it was full of tonnage of old vehicle parts some military no aviation stuff, I think the hangar has also been cleared although not sure, it was also full but I never went inside. The hangar has been taken over by a crane hire firm and will not be taken down its a listed building. I did call them a while ago and they were happy for me to take a look but i havent got around to it yet.
Thankyou all , I am converting my Replica Hurricane to the MKII D Tank buster, hence the enquiry.
yes please 🙂
Hi graham,
you mean one of these! will see if i can find a few not covered in mud but its 10ft long.
Nice !
thankyou i have this book just taken it out of the book case and dusted it off. 😮
Were the balloons more effective as a deterant against flying in the airspace they were deployed in rather than to actually bring aircraft down? it does seem remarkable that they were actually bringing down our aircraft at nearly a rate of 4:1 against EA. Very interesting stuff.
Cable cutting was developed at Culmhead an airfield near me with a hangar which still exists at stretcholt Bridgwater storing the balloon used for testing I believe they had quite a few accidents before they got it to work.
I am pretty sure its the one that used to belong to me and you are right Baz it is very rare, I think less than 20 were ever made. Its increased in value somewhat though I think I sold it for £1200, its been restored though.
signed and facebooked. Can you post his war service Moggy?
Take the windows out, oops sorry they already are :diablo:
It doesnt look very user freindy with those jagged edges. More like a japanese fighting star than a control very strange.
