Having read through the thread for the first time, I agree that it belongs in General Discussion.

I suppose that makes me biased too.

Let’s blink back the tears and move on now, shall we?

I could… but it wouldn’t be altogether wise for my current and future employment prospects. 🙂

If it’s that sensitive, should you really be dropping hints about it all over the Internet? 😎

Of course. Thanks for the correction.

I was experiencing an early-morning episode of uncharacteristic charitability. 🙂

Why do they not have a secure hotel for MPs next to parliament?

Wormwood Scrubs isn’t all that far from Parliament.

Give ’em an Oyster card apiece, and the job’s done. 🙂

One other thing to remember about the price of petrol & Diesel in the UK is the bulk of the price (last time i heard about 65p in the £1) is duty fixed by the Goverment yes folks OUR govermant who do seem to think we have deep pockets even though i have not had a pay rise in 3 years and so have a lot of other people.

That’s certainly true so far as it goes, but it’s not the whole story.

Since levels of tax and duties are normally set once a year by the Chancellor, if increases in petrol prices were caused by increases in duty then the price of petrol would only increase once a year – ie, after each Budget.

Has the price of petrol only risen once since the last budget?

And here’s another thing – how can events in Libya over the past week or so affect the price of diesel and petrol that was already in the storage tanks of oil companies and petrol stations?

I see nothing in this thread so far that would normally require the intervention of a moderator.

Pardon me for being cynical but it does seem that the petrol companies are basing their prices on what they expect to be paying for crude in six months time but if the price of crude dropped by $20 a barrel tomorrow it would be six months before they knocked 1p off the price of petrol.
Thank goodness I’ve changed to a diesel.

Ahhhh, I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who’s twigged what’s really going on. 🙂
