I’m withdrawing from the discussion now, as I have a feeling that I might need to return to this thread in an “official” capacity at some future point.

Sigh……
Which bit of “it isn’t a mosque” do you find unclear, Lincoln 7?
There are two actual mosques within a few blocks of the site, and no-one seems to be bothered about them in the slightest.
Funny, that.

Oh yes, you did:
The old saying, “when in Rome” springs in mind!
So there. :p

Grown-ups know that the bogeyman is just a story to frighten children, though.
I went to Greece once and my wife and I went to go into a Mosque as we were told it was spectacular inside, but were refused entry, as my wife was wearing shorts. The old saying, “when in Rome” springs in mind!
Your wife’s shorts would be frowned upon in a Greek Orthodox church, too. It’s a Greek thing, not a Moslem thing.
And Rome is in Italy, not in Greece.

Can you explain why it is so bad that a building for use primarily by Muslims is so bad?
Because Islam is the current bogeyman.

G.A. Obama clearly stated it’s a mosque. I did say it was 200 feet away from G.Z.
Then he was wrong, and so were you. 🙂
…..many folks died in tragic circumstances that day
Indeed they did. Many of them were Moslems.
…..would you feel it O.K. if all your family had been wiped out, to see a Mosque 200 feet away from where they died, I think not.
We’ve already established that it isn’t a Mosque and isn’t 200′ feet away. Which sort of knocks your point on the head a bit really.

It’s not a mosque. It’s a cultural centre. It will include a swimming pool, a restaurant, a library and a room for prayer. It will also include a 500-seat auditorium for theater, film and lectures. My local hospital has a prayer room that Moslems can use. Does that mean it’s a mosque?
It’s not at “Ground Zero”, it’s actually quite a distance away. More than 200′, that’s for certain. There are already two mosques within ten blocks of the site, and they have been there for years.
Finally, the decision to grant approval was made by the local NY Authorities and had nothing to do with Obama.
But, hey, let’s not allow the facts to get in the way of good old-fashioned prejudice.
