It was still working the last time I was at BHX, linking the NEC and railway station with the terminal buildings.

And there’s always the Shanghai Transrapid, connecting Pudong Airport with the city at speeds in excess of 260 mph.

I think the rather impresssive amounts of electricity it consumes might be part of the reason that the technology isn’t in more widespread use.

Simple. If you don’t want to spend the money, don’t go.
Re: space exploration, you picked the right country to be born and live in.

Sneer all you like, Mr B, but the US successes in space of the 1960s and early 70s would never have come to pass if wasn’t for the German rocket research and development programmes of the 1930s and 1940s.

The same goes for the USSR.

    What do you mean “We“….

The plaque left behind on the Moon by the Apollo 11 mission reads “We came in peace for all mankind.”

Does that answer your question, Mr B?

It’s just a shame that the US space effort became distracted by the Space Shuttle, otherwise an American might well have walked on Mars by now.

Doesn’t this belong in the ‘other’ RU World Cup thread?

Anyhow…. to be fair, Rugby Union has been gathering pace in Japan for some time now and the Japanese are seldom on the wrong end of an utter tonking like this one.

Maybe it was also a case of the All Blacks having an awesome day at the office?

No realistic handicap system could save the ‘smaller’ teams (and some of the ‘bigger’ teams too, for that matter) from a hiding when everything clicks for the All Blacks.

Maybe you should apply for the job of moderator if you feel that strongly.

    And why not?

    It’s a grand life as a moderator – that’s for sure.

The Editor however is not letting it drop….

    Which paper is this, Jim?

I have family near Spalding, and I’m sure they’ll be as appalled as the rest of us IF the facts are as you have related them.

I went to a state school.

    We played Rugby Union.

Mind you, I also played amateur Rugby League – to the utter disgust of our school rugby coach. 🙂
