I think people have been a little niave thinking its just mindless thuggery behind this, yes part of what on was mindless thugs joining in, But they were probably just bit parts in a bigger show. Sadly I think the police and everyone else became the audience or the victims in the end.

I think there’s more than a grain of truth in this.

For instance, one cannot help but wonder how many major drug deals took place while so many policemen were otherwise occupied.
