How can it be organized and opportunistic?

Given the almost endemic extent of the use of smartphones (paid for or otherwise) and “social media” by younger people in the UK?

    Very easily indeed.

    Doesn’t matter now.

See above for my take on the reason for the recent disturbances and looting, as per your question.

……meanwhile back at the ranch what started the rioting there in the first place? people have been talking about it here as well. Is it over money such as whats going on in Greece or what?

Edit: Ah, now that’s better! 🙂

I can tell you what’s behind the looting: plain old-fashioned greed and a misplaced sense of entitlement leading people to think that they have the right to take for free things that the rest of us work hard for, and to trample all over anyone with the sheer effrontery to stand in their way.

Some will tell you that it’s caused by “social deprivation”, others that “socialism” or “PC” are to blame (without really understanding what either term means).

One or two more will tell you that it’s about skin colour and/or religion.

    But they’re all talking cobblers.

    It’s about greed.

This thread is as bizarre as the riots….

    Agreed.

Thanks to some of the usual suspects, this thread has become a ranting swivelly-eyed bearpit – even by “normal” GD standards.

You really do have to wonder whether there’s any point coming in here looking for a sensible discussion at all.

Another nail in the coffin of the General Discussion forum, I think.

    Well done, lads.

    Take a bow……. 🙁

….better to spray the ba.tards with indellible paint from water cannon…..

These will be the only half-dozen water cannons in the UK, based in Northern Ireland, that the PSNI won’t be lending to anybody because it’s the NI marching season, will they?

Mind you, I’m all for dyeing the looters’ faces and hands dayglo purple, spraying them with essence of frightened skunk and then booting them out onto the street. 🙂

I think Nashio would have us believe that these looters are dashing anarchist revolutionaries, putting their lives on the line to rescue us from a totalitarian regime, rather than the thieving scumbag gits with delusions of self-entitlement that they actually are.

Either that, or he’s being ironic.

Have you not seen the film “V For Vendetta”, or heard of the graphic novel?

One of my favourite comedy series Dad’s Army. 😀

This is a serious business, Jay.

It’s real life, not a TV comedy series.

I wouldn’t call shooting mobs of feral rioters “indiscriminate shooting of civilians” under these circumstances, Grey Area. Just a legitimate cull.

I’m fairly sure that Mubarak, Gadaffi and Assad have each expressed similar sentiments in the recent past.

Do you really see yourself keeping that sort of company? I can’t see it myself.
