To be honest I dont think East Fortune would take the shack. I dont think they are actually building a new hangar because of building regulations but rather restoring the existing ones.
Sorry guys but if an aircraft is built to the same spec as a particular type of aircraft and is on a 1:1 scale then I am sorry I would call it a spit. Only on the paperwork would it be a replica and to the more technically minded people who would ask about her.
and potentially a vulcan as well Bruce.
easy answer to that one is.
Any green you can get your hands on.
Imagine how many wartime factories there would have been producing dope for buildings vehicles and aircraft.
I suppose it all depends on which batch of paint yours came from.
Same as choosing wallpaper today. Always check the batch numbers.
Well I only know one surefire way of finding out why the tiffie is perched up like this and that is to contact the RAF museum direct for a statement.
Although perhaps it could be suggested that it is to reduced the pressure on the forward facing undercart forks. After all these birds were meant for the air and not sitting about an airfield. So doesnt it go to show that there must be a hell of a strain on the structure that the cart sits on.
Only a guess and probably completely wrong.
money donations
Guys,
How I read the latest pledge of money is just like this.
They need £500000 to be recorded in their records to act as sufficient funds of their own to put up against the HLF.
They dont actually need this money until ,Or if, the HLF say yes.
So that means if you pledge money now you only need to give it to them IF the HLF say yes.
So it the HLF say no then your money is safe and you wont need to give a penny.
How I remember the website starting out was that the Vulcan WOULD fly no matter what.
Seems like they have let a lot of people down with false hope and promises.
I myself had a project to get done which was a memorial for a local aircrew. But I only said to the papers I hoped to get it done for 2003 the 60th anniversary.
That has now passed but I didnt promise anything and in actual fact I am now no nearer to getting the project finished than at the start. But I now know there is still a lot more research needing done to complete the story and a lot of fund raising before I even start. But by the completion of the research I hope the memorial will be bigger an better than before.
My point is they made promises where as I did not I mearly expressed my hopes of finishing at the 60th anniversary.
Hi Ant,
Do you have any relatives that were in the forces during the war or any other conflict. Still living preferably.
Then write a book with them. People tell the most interesting stories especially the ones still alive.
Failing that find the nearest old boys pub go into it and find any of the old guys who are willing to talk to you and make it a collection of short stories. You never know you might get some inspiration for your very own fictional book.
People I have a suggestion.
So we know where the camera is why dont we use this post to say that you have finished with it and the camera is now going onto ???
So heres how the post would look.
Scott Mcintosh (Merlin3945) finished 21/11/03 sent to Mark Crame (Snapper)
Could it be that simply but effective to know where the camera is at any one time. Also the same could apply when you receive it.
ie:-
Scott Mcintosh received 21/11/03
Anyone want to try this.
I didnt get any email with addresses on.
And it certainly aint here.
Surely everyone knows about the Halifax hen shed.
Locally to me there was a me109 cockpit being used as a small greenhouse. Also an old avro or wellington being used as a shed.
Well said Ant about illegal wreck recoveries.
But a database of missing items is impossible to maintain.
1 how would you know they were missing in the first place.
2 how many thousands of wreck sites are there to cover.
3 there are still bits waiting to be found at wreck sites all over.
I would suggest you contact the seller and if you are not satisfied with the answers contact the MOD if it is in Britain and let them investigate it. This will show if it is an illegal wreckologist group or not. Also I dont know what the legal stance is with selling bits on. I understand the Protection of Military Remains act states that you have the title of the items signed over to you if you list them in the items recovered to the MOD but after the title of goods changes hands you are not allowed to make any kind of finacial gain on them. So take that how you will.
Guys the first German to land on British soil during ww2 was this aircraft.
Heinkel He111
Serial No 5449
Unit ID IH+JA
Unit KG26
Date 28/10/1939
But was it the first aircraft crash in Scotland.
This seems to be the first Spitfire that crashed (In Scotland) as far as our database goes.
Supermarine Spitfire Mark I
Serial No L1050
Unit 603 SQN
Date 19/09/1939
Location Balerno
Details Crashed on training flight.
Now all we need is the first aircraft to crash in scotland EVER.
Ok people if you have a look at the EF website and then the Concorde link and read it through it would seem like they plan to put the Comet inside aswell but it may only mean that it is on the same site as the Concorde and not actually inside the hangar.
Personally I would have thought with a bit of planning the Concorde and Comet could go inside one of the hangars and then they could even get the vulcan inside aswell. Perhaps the aircraft would need the tail section removed to get the things inside but once inside the rest is history really.
What do you guys think.
Probably even still some space left for a couple more smaller ones.
Cmon EF how about putting the Bucc back inside too.

So the safe ones for now appear to be Hendon, Duxford both being under cover…and as for the outdoors..Newark, Southend, Wellesbourne, Midland Air Museum Coventry and ?
Just to add to the outdoor list the one at East Fortune.
How about they put her inside with the nice shiny Concorde they have been reported to have secured.
Dont know how they intend to do it but Concorde is reported to be going inside.

East Fortune is “listed”, which means its a historic site and you can’t put up any new buildings. As the old lady is too big for the hangars on site, she sits out in the cold.
Dont know if they power up the electrics-cant remember if anthing was lit up when I visited the inside a few years ago.
Watch this space!!
I have heard some interesting things recently and just because the place is listed it doesnt mean that NO new building can go up at all it means there has to be far more considerations than for a non listed place.
If they get a Concorde it WILL be put inside. Also I gather everyone has heard of the money EF will be getting.
Not off to a very good start but in lack of anything else to watch on a Friday at 9 I will watch next week and only hope it get better.
Didnt think much of the bail out scene either. I wonder what aircraft they were trying to pass it off as.
The young lad that was the tell tale on the RAF bloke was wearing what look like a tank top most of the time which looked too modern designed too. I am sure you will find it was made by GAP or George or something.
Would like to see a bit more effort next week.
Having said that the start said that the drama was inspired by real events so artistic license come heavily into play here.
