In an attempt to bring the thread back on course and to comment accordingly it appears that, until EPGH’s intervention, we all agreed with Moggy about the affair!

Since the Ireland thread seems to have become established, I would just add to that last point that the IRA did not distinguish between a UK soldier and a Protestant. The army arrived to try to stop Protestants and Catholics killing each other. So the killing of innocent civilians was well established before serious military intervention. And continued right up to the ending of hostilities. That is what the IRA did, it killed innocent civilians. So your last remark is incomprehensible.

Sinn Fein only represents a minority opinion in Northern Ireland because the British statesmen in 1921 made bloody sure of it by drawing up a completely new state that did not respect any old historic borders. Also the majority in Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal wish a united Ireland, something that is the MAJORITY opinion in the Republic.

I am seriously thinking we should start a thread entitled “Let’s quiz EGPH about his Northern Irish views?” and not hijack Binyam Mohamed’s thread!! :p

Good idea – I’m all for getting back to Muslims as Ireland is proving very unproductive.

I hope you are counting the residents of Monaghan, Cavan and Donegal as ‘Ulstermen’ because they are also Ulstermen. Therefore the majority of Ulstermen/women are pro-united Ireland free from British rule! Northern Ireland is an artificial state created in 1921 to serve British interests. So remember that you cannot talk about ‘Ulster’ without talking about Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal!

Of course you can because those are part of the Republic of Ireland and represent a minority opinion within the Republic. Just as Sinn Fein represents a minority opinion within Northern Ireland.

You won’t be too happy when Sharia law is eventually fully introduced into the UK then?

Firstly if it is, it will only be to a limited extent within the parametres of UK law and secondly it will only apply to Muslims. I am not a Muslim, so what they do within their religious context is up to them. However I am totally opposed to any laws operating here, other than indigenous UK law.
