Dr Who is a fantasy, sci-fi bit of fun, isn’t it? So, pretty much anything goes, I would have thought.;)

“With respect, that’s a bit churlish, isn’t it”

Sorry the definition of churlish I have is rude/vulgar; I thought that recreations were just that, recreations, not a sanitized version of events, or a corruption of the truth.

My meaning was “ungracious”, in the sense that it seemed to be dismissive of an attempt to do something serious and informative.

Yes a re-creation is as you have described. And so neither sanitised nor corrupted. How else should we try to communicate the horror of a period in our recent history – or shouldn’t we even try? Is that your point? If so, why not?

Sorry, I don’t understand what you are saying. Of course they did – how does my post imply that they didn’t?

Frankly, yes. Else you would have sizable chunks landing on your car many hundreds/thousands of miles from the Iceland. No, it is just a fine film of light dust.

Thankyou. With a moment’s thought I should have come to the same conclusion.:)

With respect, that’s a bit churlish, isn’t it. It’s one thing to make a dramatic, fictional film and approximate the effects of the bombing but to reproduce as accurately and meticulously as possible what actually happened, interspersed with the living memories of the diminishing number of survivors might bring home to people the horror of what it must have been like.

As Tony Robinson remarked, some of us lived with the fear of the chances of a terrorist bomb in specifically targeted areas, but that is a very long way from the real fear, night after night, of a rain of bombs blowing us, our property and our friends and loved ones to oblivion, or worse to be left with appalling and perhaps terminal injuries.

Threespool –My reasoning is that the particle size and density are the biggest factors, and it is easy to assume that the further from the source you are the smalller those two factors are.

But is that necessarily the case? Do we know that the particle size diminishes the further it is blown from its source?

That’s the interesting distinction, BB, between what we are and what we feel. Since England is not an independent nation I would say I am not English, in that sense, but I was born and grew up in England. And I suppose, genetically, a majority of the population of the United Kingdom is of mixed ancestry, anyway.

Had noted it, but thanks for the nudge. Most of what he does is done with real interest and enthusiasm so I am looking forward to it.

Well, I am British, neither English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish. The Government of the UK is based in London, which is the capital of the UK. Scotland voted to be devolved from the UK government therefore it was bound to attract a reduced interest from London. That’s what it voted for! I think it’s known as not having your cake and eating it.

It may well come down to who’s got the most adventurous lawyers. 😎

In fact can the airlines make unilateral decisions or are the air traffic control centres the final arbiters? Where does the ultimate responsibility lie for what flies and what does not?
