Spitfires in Space
Possibly to place beside the Liberator that was found on the moon a few years ago:confused:
RAF Millom
A fantastis museum to visit, only wish I lived nearer.
Take them up on their offer, you will enjoy every minute of it.
Thanks Jonathan, thats the stuff.
I think it was APSS (Aircraft Preservation Society of Scotland), that started to carry out the early work on the Beau, seem to remember the pilots seat and the rear wheel also being on show for a while as well.
Tiny little bits of the Beau have been restored and were on display before the whole lot was packed away.
A couple of people I know walked of site when the NMS brung in their own “Experts” and demanded that the first thing they would need was specialy treated water (what they meant by that I dont know), where as before bits and pieces were simply run under a tap containing ordinary “Cooncil Juice”.
Try sending an email to East Fortune, they might be able to supply you with a couple of pics then and now.
Are the runways and peri track still used to race cars?, possible reason why they are such a mess.
Glad you were able to make it to the airfield, quite an atmosphere there, isnt there.
You would not have been that far from the crash site either.
Did you get a chance to walk round “Slaughter All”, still a good few buildings standing there.
Hi Flanker Man,
Reason I asked was today as I was working here in our Memorial Garden in Edinburgh, 2 School kids came in wearing White Poppies.
One thing I have noticed is that there seems to be fewer and fewer people wearing the White Poppy, a case of back to basics……………….
Still a few here in Edinburgh, when people bought them and wanted to build a new house on the site, the new house has to be built over the prefab.
All very strange as they are not listed are they?.
Great one at Eden Camp just North of York.
Just looked through the list of songs and theres another great one, The Accrington Pals.
Thanks Chris,
Will check it out.
Hi Kev,
Eric Bogle originaly wrote the song as NML but GFOF is used as a 2nd title.
Remember being in a pub after a Scotland/Ireland Rugby game hearing all these Ireland supporters singing it and the look of disbelief when it was pointed out that it was written by a Scotsman…
Seem to remember the “reply” song you are talking about but not written by Eric Bogle.
His new CD features a song called “Hallowed Ground” in which he goes back to France for the last time.
Yup, he wrote “And the Band”………………….
Another good song for this time of year is by Mike Harding called Bomber Moon though I believe it is hard to come by.
Nice song but am still waiting to find one that betters Eric Bogle’s “No Mans Land”.
Kin WOW.
