Agree with AviationArtist on this; members of 51 (Orton) and 115 (Peterborough) Sqns ATC were at BBMF recently; all got inside the Dakota, some good photos.

Annual ATC Camps in south Lincs normally go there as part of the week.

I wonder how many more units did the same; funny how yesterday was the 72nd anniversary of the formation of the ATC.

We did our in Peterborough – http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news/local/video-photos-air-cadets-event-in-peterborough-1-4751147

I’m the Sqn Ldr with Stn Comd RAF Wittering inspecting the cadets….

So which rag says they will be back flying? Don’t hold your breath; to get them airborne in USMC spec with cost a bomb, which they don’t have.

Yes, they’ve taken all the kit, but that was the deal; all or nothing. They will cherry pick what they want and scrap the rest.

Don’t even start that rumour 😉

Probably Tornados from Marham, been operating over Wittering ready for deployment.

Better known as Christine or that F$%^&* B*£^&*” Jet.

You know the jet as well then………

Terry Taliban din’t help either. She was in a right state when she arrived at Wittering on 03 Mar for respray; holes everywhere, surprising what you can do with some body filler. :dev2:

It seems that anything related to her had its problems, the engine after Stan was not good, despite what people were told

Good to see that Bill Purchase is still around. Spent many an hour at RAF Newton with 7AEF flying the good old Chippie with the ATC. Even got involved in his ‘Chippie’s around the World’ event.

Might try and attend, but by car I’m afraid 😎

Well I have a friend who is still serving & the newspaper report is being treated as a load of old b****x! No one on his Squadron has heard anything about the GR4 being chopped & RAF Cosford are still churning out techies who are being posted to Marham & Lossie.

And the same could be said back in October with the Harrier; in fact, they were still producing Harrier engines and airframes after the SDSR annoucement!!

Can I just say a big thank you to everyone at Cottesmore for today, great to see the GR1 and SHar on display and the shutting down of all those engines is a a sound that will stay with me, very haunting.

Haunting, yes and memorable; you could hear a pin drop when the final noise of the mighty Pegasus disappeared. This, along with the ‘long walk’ by pilots and ground crew through the pipers and crowd, will remain with me forever.

    Well done guys.

Wasn’t it a chap called Roger Wilkie or something who owned an airworthy Whirlwind.. and maybe something else? I seem to remember a write up in Flypast about him and his collection… circa 1980’s.!

That would be Roger Windley over at Tattershall, remember some of the old stuff he had in the 80s.

Interesting, he has supposidely still got parts of PanAm 103 in his scrapyard.

So what happened to the 10 year Harrier maintenance contract signed with BAe last year or early this year?

Or did the UK Government find an out?

And the 10-year engine contract with Rolls Royce to supply and refurbish engines. Both add up to over £750M over the 10-year period.

Sounds to me like canceling the F-35B and buying the “cheaper” F-18 is a lose lose situtition for the British taxpayers.

Same with the cancellation of Harrier and Tornado, both of which the MoD have signed mega-pound contracts with both BAEs and Rolls Royce for CLS contracts. Surely you don’t think these companies will allow the MoD to pull out of contracts without some compensation.

In the past 2 days there has been an aircraft flying around at night which has an engine sound a bit like a quiet Hawker Hunter (you know- the whine rather than roar that its engine generates).

This aircraft was airborne last night at 4am and the engine sound was not very loud and lasted for perhaps 10 seconds (from fading in to fading out). It started fairly gradually and cut out very suddenly.

Might seem a stupid idea but as its happening at 4am, and its light by then, you live locally to BD, why don’t you take a mega early visit to near the base to see what’s there. You never know, you could be lucky, or abducted by aliens!
