This is simply not true.
Historically there have been great discussions between engineering and design teams for way lower tolerances and margins.
These things are designed for very small tolerances, shapes and structures are designed to maximize the performance, weight, etc..
This is one of the big challenges for modern industry, 5% out of the margin, and things go wrong in cascade, because the whole thing was designed from the start countintg that such 5% was something that would never happened…
This is one of the reasons I chuckle (and sure many people in this board do) when kiddies start with the speech of super tolerances, laser stuff, uber computer assisted design, etc, etc, etc..thinking this is an intrinsic superiority feature.
On production F-22s, the difference seems to be that the riveting is simply sealed over with RAM-tape.
I doubt it, i saw a picture of the 22 where a maintenace team was doing their work near the bomb bay, and the belly of the 22 was full of rivets
All these planes are the same, people is overrating this rivet-stealth issue
How about a pic of a YF-23 that hadn’t been sitting out in the weather for 2 decades, if we’re interested in intellectual honesty.
With or without weather, these rivets will be seen.
You are brainwashed with all that garbage of super tolerances and uber stealthy rivets, what can i say? is hilarious
vs. a painted YF-23
Is a picture, please, check some pictures of the SU-34, you will see them , some show very ‘smooth’ surfaces, others show how the real deal is.
Then again, there are professional pictures, and there are the real ones..
800 miles???
Is probably 80 miles
So now the F-35 does have a huge IR lenses with a immense exposition time to get a rocket….from …800 miles??
800???, this is far more range than a low frequency early warning radar, like Elta or the s-300 system
Wonder if somebody else is laughing at that figure.
it to 300km of the Pirate
This is way to much, 300 km range also falls into the fairy land
I have approached calculation to known data:
Your methology is completelly wrong, wonder if you understand this…
Technique of definition RCS «on a photo» 🙂
(The front view area / 2) * (quantity of aerodynamic elements / 6) * effect of absorbing materials * effect of the form of a glider * effect of plasma
The front view area undertakes under the drawing, in square metres.
The quantity of aerodynamic elements is compared to glider Су-27, these are wings, кили, stabilizers, forward horizontal plumage, and so on.
Effect of absorbing materials: 0.5
Effect of the form of a glider: 0.2 – 0.25
Effect of plasma: 0.5
Calculation RCS for other planes can be looked here: http://paralay.com/paralay_tab.xls
From where this equation comes from?, please answer Paralay, I’m not challenging you, is pure interest and curiosity, i would like to know from where comes the 1/2, 1/6 factors, this seems to be a rough equation, and where is the source from this equation.
Although I must say, it may be just an assumption from you…unless you provide a decent origin from this equation i would not take this seriously, even for a rough approach
I’d rather go by figures that were arrived at by supercomputer calculation
Tss, you have never dealt with material deformation calculus right?…supercomputers….
Why is this so hard to ackowledge
I’m kust asking if there is another example for this, at least for modern jets programs, i doubt it, somehow.
And because i don’t think russians are mages 😉
The RCS measurment and improvment is still ongoing work.
The T-50-KNS is the Airframe used for RCS measuring and improvments.Next topic please.
Well, this is suspecting
Can somebody tell me another example in which a full ready-to fly aircraft was just used on taxi-take of runs trials?
I think these 2 planes are flying already
Also where is the source claiming this airframe is being used for RCS testing?
For the 22 everything is ‘classified’, because is a big disappointment..all the classified standards are based on ‘may’, ‘could’, ‘should’….this example is clear…35klb is the normal operating range and the comparable data, but it must be more, and this must be classified..then comes the 40-45 klb tales, which are probably ground static tests with tunned engines.. if these figurers are not made up.
But no, this can’t be true, the real power must be classified
Anyway , this is a pakfa thread, not a 22/35 thread
‘Suggestive of a Military Program’
The paranoia sells well
They should place a satellite very close to the Internation Space Station, that will annoy NASA. Furthermore a robotic arm with camera attached can be extended towards ISS windows and peek in.
😀
Wonder if this space rendezvous will have something to do with a space station program
That’s the upper-end of the RuAF requirement (for the stage 2 engine).
So it’s official for the 2-D nozzle. :diablo:From the patent application:
Author(s)…
Chepkin, Victor Mikhailevich- Chief Designer of the original AL-41F .
Description (via GTrans)
Check that nobody is saying this thing will decrease the IR signature.
This nozzle is required for the reverse thrusting, now i can understand why this thing does have that gap behind the TVC’s plates.
And another thing, remember it was stated by the Soyus/Salyut representatives the flat nozzle, hiding the exhaust (which would require a very low aspect shape, unlike the 22’s one) was something required just for ’10 minutes’ or so, of the flight enveloped, suggesting something that could be turned from circular shape to flatted shape, suggesting (IMO) the implementation of independent feather control, something like the Eurofighter TVC research, but a step ahead.
Now here comes the big trouble
If the russian air force really want the reverse thrust, then will be hard to accomplish this with the conventional exhaust layout, because a solid plate/feather is needed, and the circular exhaust composed by many small feathers can’t strangle the exhaust flow and will be too weak to resist the loads.
Depends on what the Ruaf need, a patent does not mean will be the final design, just means this configuration was studied
F-22A were designed for another kind of warfare a decade ago. There is a good reason why the USA stopped the production of the F-22A below 200
Of course there is a reason, of course.
Why did they stopped the F-22 program?, why did they accelerate the JSF program?, which is on the same level of the F22, as you say … ‘something designed for a kind ofwarfare a decade ago’
And why they are starting a new fighter program to replace the F-22, aimed for 2025
The real answer will make cry a bunch of Raptor’s cheerleaders…and yes the USAF needs something like the raptor, something ‘designed for ancient warfare’ …but..less piggy
don’t we have enough F-35 threads without taking over the PAKFA one as well ?
I agree, i enjoined that first T-50’s picture with some condensation over its lerx, very nice shot
Anyway, there is any kind of report for the T50’s max achievable speed on tests? any hint for the maximum speed achieved?
BTW are these pictures official releases or done by spotters?
Do you know the purpose of X-35A/B/C was to demonstrate flying qualities and they had no RCS treatments? RCS was assessed by both Boeing and Lockheed using pole models on their respective radar ranges.
Showing the stealth factor was pretty secondary when was about to select the winner, as was with the ATF program.
******
On the topic, there are 2 kind of pictures, the professional ones (on magazines and publishings)…and the real ones..
I though all this combined cycle debate was solved with the advent of diesel engines that use pre-heated HFO.
Water Jet and Refined Propeller)
A pump jet is a very very bad idea for a big ship, is probably a nice toy in the civilian market, but there are no advantages for such system , especially for such mount over the floating level..it will end producing more underwater noise than propellers.
Or maybe it just shows that the two countries have different standards in safety (hint: Sukhoi have already lost a Su-35 in testing).
Seriously this statement is beyond stupid, ‘these dumb russians doing crazy things again’ ah yes..
Prototypes are lost , is not like such thing only happens to the riskier ones..a prototype is a time bomb ready to explode, every prototype is like this.
