But if you want them to tolerate our society, doesn’t that mean that we should tolerate their irrational customs ?

I’m not condoning what they did,but if wearing the burkha is so collossally important that a father’s prepared to kill his own child for not wearing it,surely it’s not for anyone outside of that religion to forbid its use ?

Fair enough, but being an independent single woman isn’t a choice in some cultures, you have to obey your father or your husband .

But we’re lucky enough to have the choice of what to wear.It would be a different story if you were completely dependent on your husband and he insisted you wore it.I actually put this topic up because it’s one of the few things where the arguments for both sides seem so equally weighted I can’t make up my mind .

As far as I know a niqab is only a headscarf, but I may be wrong. This is referring to the all in one ,down to the ground black garment with only the woman’s eyes showing.

The death of the two British hostages murdered in Iraq, and seeing the 16 year old girl shot by police during the protests in Iran.Three precious lives cut tragically short. And the fact that,as if it wasn’t bad enough for my Mum being bedridden for a year, she’s well on the way to being blind and deaf too.But then luckily I laughed my socks off reading about the cat caught in the laminator .

It wasn’t a book for me but a jigsaw, the kind with different types of transport on it that were popular in the 1950s.Mine had a Sunderland flying boat on it – love at first sight !
