God bless them and everyone else who served in WWII.Their sacrifice gave me and my daughter’s generation a lifetime of peace and they must never be forgotten.Seeing some of the military cemeteries in Normandy, and the heartbreakingly young ages on them, was a very moving experience when I was a student .

My most memorable flight should be on the You did What? thread but it’s too awful …. Someone not a million miles away kindly gave us a tour of the flying boat bases of Auckland and I threw up in the back seat of his Cessna.Apart from that,Concorde from JFK to LHR.I don’t remember much of it,but there’s a photo somewhere of me in a Princess Di type dress beside the thing that says Mach 2.Lastly the flight in a BEA Sikorsky helicopter to the Isles of Scilly, which I absolutely loved.Best of all would have been a flight in a real live flying boat ,but with my tendency to travel sickness it’s probably just as well that never happened .

And the superb Malian singer Salif Keita. Is it pc to call someone black ? I called a mixed race ( oops, dual heritage ) baby black yesterday and my Jamaican friend said I should have said a baby ” of colour ” – so I suppose that makes me colourless ? I can’t keep up with this pc stuff.

Just shows how cynical and insincere these lot are, that they even regard giving to charity as just another part of the job they need to be seen doing, and thus claimable on expenses.

Even worse was the one who claimed £60 for the three wreaths of poppies he laid at Remembrance Day services – as if someone on an MP’s salary couldn’t afford that amount .
