I love Robbo’s steam engine pictures.

My great-grandfather was a steam-engine driver in the late nineteenth century and I’ve seen one faded photo of him standing in front of his engine, not quite as tall as the wheel. If I win the lottery I’m buying myself a big black Fowler ploughing engine.

My friend at church telling me that she’d been worried sick. After changing her telephone provider, she’d had no phone calls for nine days.

After telling her in a Christian spirit that maybe she just wasn’t popular, and getting a slap, she said the problem was solved now.

A telephone engineer came yesterday. Using the most sophisticated,up-to-date technical equipment,he diagnosed the cause of the trouble.

Squirrels had been chewing the line.

This made us both giggle so much that we nearly forgave the thieving b******s who’ve nicked the lead off the roof round the back again.

Thank you all so much for all the suggestions and photos.

I’m quite touched,I didn’t think I’d get any replies.Well,I don’t seem to on the rare occasions I start a thread on Historic 😉

We’re going in May,flying with Virgin to New York then across to the other coast mainly by train,as the old man thinks trains are fascinating. I’ve never been further west than Washington, apart from a brief trip to Seattle,so it’ll be a real treat.

The holiday includes a visit to the Grand Canyon,so I may be tempted to push him over the edge after being together twenty-four hours a day :diablo:

A company has pledged £200 a minute to Help for Heroes for every minute Crawley can keep Manchester United from scoring.

    Nice touch 🙂

Cleaning my bumblebee nesting box ready for Spring, and discovering once again that it’s of no interest at all to bumblebees.

On the other hand,it’s turned out to be an absolutely brilliant earwig nursery.

Eighteen months after I first dragged myself into the 21st century and got online,I’ve at last got a message from someone who wants to put $8,000,000 in my bank account.

It’s a miracle, all I have to do is send them my account details and they’ll even send me a photo of the car crash that killed this fabulously wealthy relative I didn’t even know I had 😀

Talking of GREAT Britain, I was saddened today to read that we’ve lost more men and women in Afghanistan than the rest of the EU countries added together – 356 against 298.

What does that say about this country ?

( American troops have suffered the greatest number of fatalities,1,476. )
