Talking of GREAT Britain, I was saddened today to read that we’ve lost more men and women in Afghanistan than the rest of the EU countries added together – 356 against 298.

What does that say about this country ?

( American troops have suffered the greatest number of fatalities,1,476. )

An ageing Father who actually asked me why I hadn’t gone to school today.

    You and me both,kev.

Mum asked me this morning whether I was going camping with the Girl Guides this year.

Obviously down to us looking so young.

Cheese,or even better, Marmite flavoured cheese, accompanied by a nice big handful of seedless black grapes.

Of course I know which side to butter, note I say butter and not margarine, which is the invention of the devil. Lots of butter, unsalted preferably, and not this spreadable rubbish which is 30% vegetable oil.

Apparently I’m going to New York this year,so I might see if American bagels are better than British ones.

Simultaneously answering an e-mail from an online friend who’s detailed some awful problems he has, which make him want to break down and cry

While reading texts from daughter, who reckons she’s got nothing to live for since she split up from her boyfriend

And planning what to say tomorrow to a friend whose husband who needs a serious operation on the arteries on his neck,so serious that the surgeon’s described his current condition as being like a ticking time bomb

And wondering whether Mum’s going to ask me tomorrow if I know why she couldn’t get out of bed when she woke up,because she’s forgotten that she has an illness that means she hasn’t been able to stand for twenty-five years.Actually, the exact same question she’s been asking me every day for a week.

    Oh, ******** !!!!! :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

    Bumblebee.

With all due respect, the date of 30th April was when support for Britain was publicly declared, I suspect the US was assisting well before then.

    Regards,

    kev35

I take your point kev,but if I remember rightly, the feeling at the time was for a public declaration of support from the US,which was a long time coming.

The “yanks” did help out in 1982….where did the Shrike and advanced AIM-9missiles come from? Plus, I’m sure they gave lots of recce and intel.

If the Falklands were re-invaded…I’m sure the “yanks” would help the UK again.

    I’m not being anti-American here ( especially as,God willing,I’ll become the great-aunt of a brand-new little Californian in April ),I’m just saying :

Date Argentina invaded the Falklands Islands – April 2nd 1982

Date President Reagan declared US support for Britain – April 30th 1982

Some ” special relationship ”

I remember the war,and the distress of seeing casualties on TV every night.

Mr. Bee and I went to see the Canberra come home to Southampton Water,a very moving occasion.
