Yes,an interesting article.
As someone with ( thank God ) no experience of war,I feel strongly that it’s not for me to sit in judgement of anyone who finds themself in that situation.I understand that, given reasonable limits, unpleasant things happen.
It’s the concept of whistle-blowing that interests me.I was talking it over with the sprog last night, and like me she’s got a well-developed conscience ( she’s a horribly accurate mini-me actually ).
Much to my surprise, she told me that when she gets into journalism she could never be a whistle-blower or she’d never work again.
Is this really the case ? Are people who expose an inconvenient truth really despised ?
I signed the official secrets act myself, but I still have a conscience.
If I found something being concealed that I knew to be profoundly wrong,I couldn’t live with myself if I kept quiet about it.
But what if I had a family dependent on me,knew my action would maybe make me unemployable ? That’s the question that interests me.

This Thing of Darkness by Harry Thompson. It’s about Robert Fitzroy, captain of the Beagle, opponent of Darwin, governor of New Zealand, pioneer of weather forecasting,a fascinating character who ultimately committed suicide.
For a more girly book,Howard’s End by E.M.Forster.

I was standing at the bus stop last week when a young chap started telling me about how his mate had put a Ducati engine into a Mini.
Since I’m an old dear without the slightest interest in either cars or engines,I had to struggle to make intelligent comments until the bus arrived, naturally ten minutes late.
Should I have been impressed ?

That’s a shame.
I saw him in the 60s at the university folk club,he seemed a really nice bloke.
I’ve always fancied having a go on one of those one-man-band contraptions.

PTSD was my first thought, and that would fit with what he told me about not being able to cope with dealing with people.
I don’t think being Christian comes into it,it’s simply good manners to try and help people.Incidentally, there’s a big Catholic church in the town centre and he said they’d turned him away too.

Thank you all guys,my Dad will be particularly interested in these videos and photos. At 86 he still has the same passion for anything connected with aviation that he had as a kid watching the aeroplanes at Croydon in the 1920s.
Showbus 2010,IWM Duxford
A wet afternoon at Duxford.Did I mention meeting two charming young men from this very forum ?
( And I know that this is the non-aviation photo thread,but I don’t see flying-boats all that often …)
