I donot. That is why one cannot assume they are constant 🙂
Oh, btw, one of your PAF affsar once wrote in an article (that was posted here) that PAF doesnt fly any night sorties unless there is a war looming and that F16 pilots use F7’s to make up bulk of their hours. I could try and locate the article, but I am not good at digging up old articles and certainly nowhere as good as you 😀
Cheers!
i was just comparing basis on the numbers of aircraft claimed to have in inventory.
regarding the article. it depends for what purpose that was written at that time.. during sanctions time the purpose may be not to show that PAF is capable of maintaing F-16 so that sanctions are lifted. the same case is here on one hand PAF wants F-16 but they are trying to avoid footing the bill for it so they are saying it is not high tech enough.
Which twin engine jets does PAF operate?
A-5C has two engines and is in active service.
“so accident should be two times considering other factors constant.”
Unfortunately, the other factors are not constant.
so u know the inside information about both airforces including pilot log hrs for each jet and how many jets are in overhaul during time. 😮
STAR how about per capita per flying hours when it comes to accidents…or simply the ratio between the no. of aircraft flying and the accidents whilest factoring the no. of flying hours?
this thing is very difficult to judge unless the airforce release information about operational readiness of aircrafts. u can just from total numbers. IAF has twice many aircrafts as PAF. so accident should be two times considering other factors constant.
… or more because they couldn’t fly them at all due to lack of spares?Which twin-engine jets does PAF fly?
F-16s are and were always in operational. u can judge from that UAV accident and various show every year that this aircraft operational readiness is key component of PAF and they now knows how to maintain it.
about twin engine jet just guess. i dont think it is difficult to find.
I wonder what this discussion is all about. It’s rather clear to me but maybe not to you guys.
Pakistan is getting new F-16, so that automatically makes it the best one out there.
When we talk about the FC-1/JF-17, then automatically it becomes the best compared to other stuff.Remember not too long ago, the Gripen was the best plane out there; better than the F-16 or Mig-29 or the Mirage-2k5?
It’s rather simple you see!
Gripen is still the best. never doubt Swedish quality and systems technology with american engine. PAF always looks for the best things out there.
PAF sets record of no air accident in 5 months
Our chief correspondent
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force set a new record of no accident in the first five months of the current year, said Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat here Monday.
“There was no air accident except a ground accident when a compressor exploded,” he said.
He said last year PAF had four air accidents as compared to India’s 17.
Indian Air Force has already met five air accidents this year.
He said the excellence of no air accident in PAF was achieved because of a combination of factors including improvement in the supportability and technical management.
He said no F-16 accident took place in 10 years which itself speaks about the professionalism in PAF and the highest standards being maintained by its officers.
He said more and more efforts are being made in training of pilots, who could improve their skill in “emergency handling.”
He quoted an example when both the engines of a jet failed three miles away from the runway and normally pilots are instructed to eject in this situation but the pilot of that jet managed to land safely with one landing gear still in the process of being opened.
“Of course the luck factor was there,” said the air chief.
He said, “It was due to combination of factors that we have achieved new record of zero accidents from January to May 2005.”
The BARS-29 has been requested by Indians so I don’t see the point why it should not be included in the price tag.
r u sure about this thing? there is no official signing for this. just media speculations.
Yes, this is widely known, even if your 3 generations jump is waaaay exaggerated…. So?
There is one thing I am sure of, if the Block 60 really were worth its high price, your military junta would definitely die tryin to get some. The fact that they only are opting for Block 5x says pretty much..
i think u dont understand the above interview. the bottom line is that PAF doesnt want to pay for F-16 from its own pocket (they want to save money for another aircraft down the line). no matter what block it is and F-16e is expensive for even US to dole out.
.. and probably one fifth of its price..
again wrong on this one. new single RD-33 cost around $2.67m. now calculate the cost for two as single engine MIG-29 is unlikely. UAE ordered 88 GE engines for $400m. just around $4.5m a piece.
Strange indeed, nobody has ever seen the cockpit layout proposal for the KM but you already KNOW it’s gonna be only up to F-16C standard.
i dont think it can surpass advance block 52 cockpit by any stretch of imigination.
Regarding quality issues, never heard about MiG-29 in need for add-on strenghtening stripes so that the airframe and tail control surfaces do not crack apart. I only can guess that with even more weight and even more power of the Block 60 the problems only get worse.
If you got some data regarding quality problems with MiG, I am interested..
offocourse when aircraft is rated for 3000kg and the other much smaller for 10,000kg. MIG-29 with 5500kg weopon load is just entering service.
Range problems are quite a thing of the past. Improved efficiency of the engines and additional tanks replacing auxilliary intake vents located in the LERX are the reasons for this..
it is not much better. at most 1800km on internal fuel for MIG-29K from http://www.rusarm .ru.
MLU was a match for dated MiG-29M design. It is funny to see someone who seriously considers a phased-array radar equipped aircraft hardly a match for F-16A(MLU). But since your current excitation about F-16s has, of course, absolutely nothing to do with upcoming acquisitions for your beloved Pakistani AF, I take your assumptions as totally objective.. 😉
In your dreams, buddy.. 😀
and what is the operational advantage of that phased array? does it has more range or tracking?according to brouchure hardly posted. and what about MTBF of the radar. i can bet it is less than half of APG series.
u can never win on MIG-29 vs Falcon. thats for sure. F-16 with CFT and dorsal spine is more than a match of Flanker let alone Fulcrum in Strike potentional and air to air BVR fight. F-16e is over kill.
look who is speaking. my $2.5B prediction come very close to $3B of the air Chief so person who mentioned $5B figure should eat his words by now. and it also gives the indication of funding not all taken by PAF as mentioned by member with almost worthless sources. [GA are u listening]and JF-17 is the best thing happened to PAF nothing come close to it thats why they said there will be no rival to it in BVR fight.
Saadat flies by F-16 deterrence value
Acquisition of jets won’t bridge imbalance with India, admits air chief
By Shakil Shaikh
ISLAMABAD: The US would complete the process of approving Pakistan’s request for 75 multifaceted F-16 Fighting Falcons by September or October, hoped Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat here Monday.
“It’s not a done deal either way….we want 75 advanced version Falcons of which 50 to 55 must be Cs and Ds class and others may be used but upgraded ones,” he said.,He was giving an interview to The News/Jang panel comprising Fahd Hussain (Editor, The News, Rawalpindi), Shakil Shaikh (Chief Reporter, The News, Rawalpindi), Hanif Khalid (Chief Reporter Daily Jang) and Rana Ghulam Qader (Staff Report Daily Jang) at his Air Headquarters office.
He said, “Pakistan has already rejected the offer of 25 F-16 jets by the Americans.” Saadat said even with the arrival of Falcons, disparity gap of the fighter jets between India and Pakistan would not be bridged. “But we should have an air force with deterrence value, as a few dozen Falcons would not be acceptable to us.”
The General Dynamics F-I 6A and two-seat F-I 6B were succeeded in 1983 by the F-I 6C and two-seat F-I 6D, with new radar, totally upgraded avionics, a new cockpit and many extra items including two Lantirn pods filled with infrared, laser and other types of sensor which assist in night attack. Pakistan, the air force chief said, would like to have as many F-16 Falcons as it is possible given the ground realities. “We want a number of multi-role Cs and Ds F-16 Falcons which restore our original capability.”
One F-16 would cost Pakistan around $40 million and probably the money would be paid from the aid package, as 75 F-16s would cost Pakistan a huge amount ($3 billion).
“We are not in an arms race with India, as Pakistan wants to give peace a chance which should not come through weakness but a position of strength,” said Saadat.
Clad in his uniform, the Air Force Chief said Pakistan has not given up its other options like Grippen jets, though “the option of Mirage-2000-5 is almost given up as the French people are now aggressively marketing their Rafale aircraft.”
Justifying Pakistan’s quest to acquire 75 Fighting Falcons from the Americans, Saadat said: “Our effort is to have deterrence value and if an enemy aircraft intends to violate our air space, the incoming flying machine must be shot down or we must have the capability to give a matching response.”
He believed that Pakistan Air Force should be good enough to give a fight that hurts the enemy.
“Effective fleet of aircraft with good weapons and avionics can make the difference in modern warfare where one is not required to send land forces like in the past to occupy enemy land…now it is the war to see how much damage can be caused to the enemy.”
Saadat said the key purpose of an air force is to cease, move and destroy enemy things and realising this the government at the highest level has allocated sufficient funds to it with maximum allocation made out of three services.
“With changing concept of warfare, the PAF is very much equipped with giving the enemy a good fight and it depends on a combination of factors,” he maintained.
Saadat said it is not an easy thing or immediate possibility to produce high-quality equipment through indigenisation, as this process of indigenisation is very, very slow and it requires huge investment, and an organised structure.
“It would be our wishful thinking to start producing high-quality military hardware and weapons.”
He said the government has already approved a 10-15 years integrated plan for the country’s forces and PAF was given the best deal for which we should be proud of.
He said JF-17 Thunder, a Pak-China joint venture, induction would prove best for the force, as there is no prize for a runner up in the war.“We can go further in avionics and other things once the production of JF-17 starts…it’s an extremely good and important project,” said Air Chief Marshal Saadat, who succeeded as chief of air staff on March 18, 2003 following the demise of Mushaf Ali Mir in an air crash.
“JF-17 will be better than all the existing aircraft – Mirages, A-5 and F-7. These are in no way close to it,” he said adding, “it will replace all these aircraft.”
JF-17 Thunder will be a mid-tech aircraft and within a couple of years it will be produced as test flights have already run.
He said Pakistan was offered to buy Hawkeye E-2C but it is unlikely that the PAF would opt for it, though a long list of weapons were handed over to the Americans and it would take some time to go through a process before the final decision is taken by the US administration. He said no breakthrough is achieved with Russia in arms purchase and it could only happen once India parts its ways with Moscow and look the other way.
He said no deal is being negotiated with Britain and that could only happen if they offer integrated system. “That is why, I am not going to Paris Air Show, nor did I visit London because the British make the excuse of American sanctions in that realm,” said Saadat.
He said the US sanctions are still there in view of the intellectual property rights and sensitive technologies. “The PAF has got no benefit out of non-Nato status given to Pakistan,” he said.
Responding to a question, he said he is not regularly flying. He said it is a sensational outing, and one is on his own after taking off
Yes, the BARS-29, even if it’s PESA only. It is basically a downscale of the Su-30MKI radar, since Indians rejected the original Zhuk-M (N010M) slotted design.. In ordert to retain requested performance while being considerably lighter and smaller to fit into the sleek MiG airframe there is a requirement for BARS-29 to use more advanced technology than the N011M BARS itself. Software codes are not that much affected, some 85% are the same as with Su-30MKI..
there is no indication at this point that BARS-29 is part of money of MIG-29K nor any such approval. for F-16E completely new EW suite with PowerPC was developed by raytheon. almost equal to F-22. fibreoptic, integrated targetting system,. engine with 3500 lbs more thrust or F-16blk52 not the F-16A. RD-33MK is more advanced than RD-33. so two generation difference between MIG-29A and MIG-29K while in case of F-16 it is 3 generations.
Yes, could be some kind of RD-33K variant, I guess, with increased thrust and new materials due to maritime use.. I could also imagine provisions for later TVC refit, even if I am not sure this time..
still it will have one third life relative to GE engine.
Definitely yes… Cannot imagine this machine having the old analog gauges… Could be either some derivation of the M2, or, even more likely, some THOMSON-CSF refit? There surely are guys here who know this better..
not upto F-16e standard but only upto F-16C standard which has the same price as MIG-29K but much better quality and more weopon loadout.
Let us also count in a major airframe redesign, new wing slots, enlarged wing area and a totally new double-seater version, derived from MiG-29M2..
It is definitely not your everyday Fulcrum..
certainly it is better than baseline fulcrum but weopon load , range it is quite inferior to F-16. at best it can match to F-16MLU.
ISLAMABAD, 26 May, (SANA): A Ceremony was held at Islamabad to mark the “15 years of Co-operation” between Pakistan Air Force and SAGEM Company of France. Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, Chief of the Air Staff, was the chief guest on the occasion.
SAGEM is an international enterprise now with new name as SAFRAN Group. It is the third largest European Company in electronics for Defence and Security. It has been cooperating with Pakistan Air Force for avionics upgrade of Mirage fleet at Pakistan Aeronautical Complex, Kamra.
Air Chief Marshal Kaleem Saadat, Chief of the Air Staff, while addressing on the occasion said, “It would not be out of place here to acknowledge that the operational modification carried out in collaboration with SAGEM has significantly boosted the capabilities of Mirage fleet. And no less significantly, the technical expertise thus generated, has given PAF confidence to plan its future needs, with a more focused approach towards self-reliance.”
Earlier, Mr Jeen Luc Hidalgo, Senior Vice President, International Directorate SAGEM Defence Security said “Pakistan, through our involvement with PAF, has taught us that there are no ready-made rules, cast in concrete: we have addressed a new domain, shaped by unlimited vision, where impossible is not in the vocabulary. Together we have developed a unique and original response, which has become a reference for other Air forces around the world”.
The ceremony was also attended by His Excellency Pierre Charasse, the Ambassador of France and senior PAF Officers.

well even chengdu or w/e its called says its barely as capable as F-16A in Air to Air capability and you are claiming it is better than F-16. The plane can barely achieve range of 1200 km with couple AAMs its nothing more than interceptor and has limited or no strike capability.
surely u have updated information to back up this statements. It will have no rival in S Asia in BVR combat. this is the latest statement 😀 .
PS and F-16A is not a some thing to be dismissive of it in air to air combat.
Have my lively contribution here: I really don’t know what’s all that hype about FC-1/JF-17! That plane is neither revolutionary, nor radical, nor impressive, nor competive, it is simply of aged and rather poor design. Take a look at it and you’ll know it’s a dud! They would have been better off with buying or stealing from Northrop the old F-20 blueprints!
ok show me any other plane with $15m price tag and only $500M development cost and carry active bvrs on multiple racks, anti-ship, anti-radiaiton, and is completely new and fadec engines with possible TVC engine upgrade. offcourse. It is selling point is not it has to be revolutionary in all aspects but in some. FC-1 will do fine against any 4th generation fighter assuming it is equiped with proper avionics, radar and weopon system.
Ps. how much F-20 will cost in todays dollars assuming u dont build 4000 of them like F-16,
Did you miss the part where it is the E/F model Hornet being offered?
no i didnt miss the part. when i say F-16/F-18 it includes every thing. there is no hope of India signing for that even in 2010. i am not even considering the time frame for these aircraft rolling out Indigenously those planes and than put into squardon service.
by The time IAF+Indian government takes some thing even close to Signing. both F-16 and F-18 will be obsolete. they better start negotiaiton for FB-22 now.
THree years after signing? Interesting. That means there’d be 80-some F-16s coming online around the same time as the JF-17. Might this potential deal mean a reduction in the number of JF-17s bought?
PAF has 170 Mirages and around 190 F-7s. so JF-17 if replace two for one still comes to around 150 number. PAF needs to have alteast 300 new airplanes to defend the size of the long border.
