CAT1, Do you expect an official statement from ISPR? We will all know in a few months. We have history as an indicator – Musharraf has been willing to let US base in Pakistan to attack Afghanistan and he has a record of compromising Pakistani sovereignty for aid and other rewards from the US. Like they say, once it is established that so and so is a -, it’s only a matter of price negotiations.
Do you believe that Bush released “unlimited” F-16s because he felt that Pakistan was going to become a beacon of democracy and virtue 😉
the same wepoons can turn on india if india does not follow US in letter and spirit. . Pak has also history of transferring weopons and tech from one endeavor to another. 😉
payment method of new aircraft will show what is inside the deal.

He said Pakistan would get fighters and one thing was more important that our armed forces were happy. “We need not worry as they are experts in their field.” He said nobody should be disturbed as what Pakistan was getting was not for an arms race.
The foreign minister said the US decision to sell F-16s to Pakistan had no connection whatsoever with the proposed gas pipeline project with Iran. He denied the US had attached any strings to its decision to sell the fighter jets. “There will be no limit to the purchase of aircraft and Pakistan will also be getting the latest version (block C/D) of these jets,” he added.
Responding to a question, Kasuri denied that US has offered selling F-18 aircraft to India to offset the sale of F-16s to Pakistan. He said Pakistan had a 15-year defence plan and getting the fighters was part of that policy, adding that Pakistan had its own independent policy.
About Iran, he said the stance of Pakistan was very clear and “we expect a peaceful solution to the issue at all costs as several fronts are already open in the region.” He said by giving the fighters to Pakistan, the US would improve its image in the Islamic world.
Yahoo/H-177, I think you should stick to discussing with your level 😉
Wolffy, Do you think it was a coincidence that Pakistan just sent its centrifuges to IAEA after years of refusal just as the F-16s were announced? There’s no free lunch. Just wait a few months. We’ll know 😉
BTW here’s an editorial from Pakistan’s Daily Times:
http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_27-3-2005_pg3_1
so do you think your discussion is of much higher level. You also quoted cash price of $1.2B at that time. what happened to that figure now?
so how many F-16s will PAF get for land invasion help.
Block 52s for sure. Pak spokesman said today that the FC-1 program was in trouble because of “engine troubles” so this F-16s will be a godsend.
I’m told it will be 24 to 28 to start with and an option of 48 more. The offer essentially is open ended with no number limits.
There is nothing special in your prophecies. PAF chief himself stated in sept IDEA about the F-16. PAF at that time wanted 70 and US agreed to 24. regarding FC-1. information about it will be always in doubt because how can they ask for F-16 if they claim that FC-1 or other aircraft is ready.
Other performance improvements to be carried out in future will involve the 29,400 lb-thrust AL-31FP turbofan, developed and produced by the Saturn Scientific Production Association (NPO Saturn).
this another hole in higher thrust indigenous theories and also composites of current aircraft.
Hope you are not a sudent in econimics. You ‘d fail the exam :diablo: …
so explain to me what is net worth in simple words?
The 300 B is from The Friday Times.
The World Bank, however it calculates the GDP is a million times more reputable than star49 or Shaukat “Cook up” Aziz 🙂 GDP is calculated by neutral sources – not lying governments which have extra reasons to inflate numbers.
As to China, both sides of the ratio is for 2003, so the number is valid.
Give it up man, you’re already a joke here. Pak’s GDP will reach $100 B in a decade or so.
So what is friday times credibility? and how world bank can calculate GDP. does world bank has statistician sitting in every government office?
regarding China there is only beliefs not facts.
Not when you use the real GDP instead of the cooked up numbers presented by both governments.
For Pakistan, last year’s budget was Rs 192 Billion. But Pak experts noted that if you add defense pension and nuclear weapons grants, it comes to Rs. 300 Billion for 2004-05 or about $5.1 Billion at current conversion rates. The trailing 2004 GDP was $68.8 Billion at 2004 dollar levels according to World Bank. The ratio is 7.4% 🙂
No one believes the official BS numbers the Chicoms give out. China’s real defense budget for 2003 is estimated to be over $66 Billion. The trailing GDP for that period was $1.2 trillion. The ratio comes out to 5.4% 🙂
can you give any reference to 300B for PAK? and and how world bank calculate GDP? it is the revlevant government that gives the numbers. in that case PAK GDP is $100B.
from where you got $66B for China and its GDP size for 2003? and we are now in 2005.
My god !
It is not all about the saving rate, but about the net worth of a nation…
Net worth of nation depends on government spending and consumption if that is financed from out side so there is no internal strength in the economy merely depending on out side finances and $ being the reserve currency of the world. of course every nation net worth is composed of different things like Industrial production in China and Service sector in US and India case.
It is also less that a third of China’s $60 Billion plus annual defense budget and about 2.9% of India’s GDP as opposed to the over 6% of GDP that China and Pakistan spend on weapons 🙂
how you come up with 6% GDP figure for Pak and china? than it will be atleast $90B for China and $6b for Pak which is not the case.
Blackcat,
Don’t hurry to feel sorry for US because of the national debt.
The sum seems unbelieveble: 7700 billion! But reported to their GDP the US debt is 62.4% of GDP (2003), France is 68.8% of GDP (2003), Japan is 154.6% of GDP (2003), Germany 64.2% of GDP (2003), Canada 77% of GDP (2003), Egypt debt is 101.8% of GDP (2003), Greece debt is 100.9% of GDP (2003), Austria debt is 67.7% of GDP (2003), Italy debt is 106.4% of GDP (2003), even countries like Switzerland and Sweden have debt over 50% of GDP. The percentage is more important than the actual amounts (which is still quite high for many nations) because it relates directly to the nations ability to rectify the debt. The US has a substantial debt but as a precentage is in a better position to budget itself out of debt when compared to the many nations with debt 70% and the many with debt over 100% of the GDP
It is not all about debt but savings rate of a nation. US has around 1% saving rate of its GDP so most of its debt and consumption is financed by savings from outside the US and thats the whole point.
Yeah…for example how can they claim you dont need a visa to fire a BVR missile acorss intl. boundry? how can they claim to have BVR when as soon as you get good tone the other guys knows too…thats not two BVR ? How can they claim they have RVV-AE on their Mig-21…they are after all a south asian airforce, they cant be trusted.
how can two aircrafts weight be exactly the same as 38.8Tons when TVC, Canards and BARS add another 2 tons to one of them?
Rubbish you ve never been to the IAPO factory…how can you trust the IAF with such #’s…even Irkuts still claims its 34,500 and ONLY the MKK has a limit TO of 38.8. 😀
BTW who confirmed in AI ..10x over?
IAF and trusting? there alot of reports in Indian press from IAF which are not true in reality.
BTW Your signature reminds of one more thing that I confirmed – the MMR’s antenna diameter is 650 mm, compared to the Zhuk-ME’s 624 mm.
I also mentioned volume and weight? Russian radars of this size weighs 250 to 300KG. Any way your 700MM initial claim is blown apart by your own admission. let see how long it takes for this one :p
A simple question deserves a simple answer
The LCA will only be operational by 08 and HAL cannot produce more than amount x per year of the plane, especially in the initial years, in the meantime older IAF planes will still need to be retired, hence……., the IAF also wants to increase squadron strength asap, note the term asap, now you should get the picture why “Hindustan” does not only go for the LCA.
So how do you know that these 126 jets will start arriving before 2008?. even there is no sign contract yet. negotiations are more in preliminary stages.
regarding production rate why not increase LCA assembly lines to two or three per year instead of spending money on foreign licenses and another production line. The whole thing is illogical.
