Went solo on T21 18th July 1964 at Weston on the Green. Had a cable break at 350 ft
Start of my aviation career as ended up A340 Captain.
Tried to look at Stirling Project website and it came up as Bandwidth Limit exceeded. Error 509
Was he by any chance the Holmes who was a Flying Instructor at AST Perth??
Went to it two years ago and bought a print of Stirling 1 similar to one my father flew. It was a print of the one flown by Group Captain Thomas G Hamish Mahaddie and got it signed by all the Bomber Boys. Great to see the veterans who survived and are still here.
Not sure that those who had to fly through the Alps rather than over them and also flying at the mercy of flak due to low ceiling capability would agree?
Great photos
Around 2002 when I was night stopping in Seoul on way to SFO I visited a military museum that had a B52 sitting outside.I cannot remember where it was exactly but it did not take long to get there from Itaewon where I was staying. A lot of other aircraft there too.
I wonder what that was like to land in a gusty strong crosswind?
It would appear that erna does not want to answer the question as to the locality of the crash site, not sure why as he only has to give a rough idea and Hampden Project would be more likely to identify the aircraft. Personally I would not help erna anymore until he becomes a bit more helpful in answering that question!
The old Bourn airfield would be ideal for housing as large estate across the road and only a small tatty flying club there which cannot even organise an open day in August last year properly!
I thought somebody had pencilled in the old RAF Bourn for housing thousands??
As Brian was based at Bourn Cambs on Stirlings I think he would have appreciated this memorial see http://www.rafbournmemorial.co.uk 24th August

Give Joe Sharp my regards if you know him and if he still lives in Gt Offley
I too had a good morning there. Got down early so was there at opening time and have a Stirling 1 drawing signed by the Bomber Boys as that was the aircraft my father flew.
That would be Bourn ( Cambs ) rather than Bourne ( Lincs ) I guess:D
Talking of Bourn Cambs there is a commemoration plaque being opened there organised by the son of a 97 Squadron Bomb Aimer who flew from there during WW11 planned for 24th August 2014.
http://www.rafbournmemorial.co.uk refers to it
Thanks 12jaguar
