Just ‘bumping’ this thread up-don’t forget, 9pm, Channel 4, tonight! 🙂
Well said that man! 😎
Good point, Wilow. I don’t see why a perfectly good, airworthy Mustang should come over here to spend the rest of it’s days on some car showroom turntable in Hendon, slowly gathering dust, when it could be buzzing about the skies.
Okay, so the Halifax has sat there for heaven knows how many years now, and we kinda know that it’s just never going to be restored. But, if the Museum went to great lengths and expense to obtain that wrecked Hampden, and put bits of it out on the floor of the Bomber Hall straight away, why on earth can’t they do the same for what Stirling parts they have?
Daft as it may sound, there’s some nice footage of the Vimy to be found on the the ‘Star wars-Episode 2’ DVD, as it’s featured quite heavily in the soundtrack-they show a sound guy recording it on a low pass, distant pass, stuff like that.
It ended up as some speeding, flying thing in a noisy chase sequence-I think it sounder nicer to start with, no matter what make engines they were!
Fair do’s though, that must be one hell of an engine, and I’m sure it must have some aero applications-if that mad bloke from Wiltshire could build a wooden ‘Spitfire’ and fly it with a converted Jaguar V12, I’m sure this thing could be made to fly too! 😀
Actually you cheeky beggers, official policy from WAY up high in the MoD is to remove the engines from the Spits and Hurricanes to keep the Lanc airworthy ‘at all costs’-as actually happened some years back on the BBMF-early nineties if memory serves.
So there, with knobs on! 😉
Agreed 100% Mogs; I’d like to get those responsible for this alone in a quiet corner somewhere, and instruct them as to exactly where their arrogant country would be today if it weren’t for the ‘Rostbifs’. 😡 😡 😡
“If Hendon had a pond, they could float the Walrus as well as the Sunderland, and could put the Halifax back underwater seeing as they have no enthusiasm for restoring it.”
Well, going by the number of buckets that are often scattered about that place on a rainy day, they won’t need to actually dig a pond, as the place is gonna fill up all by itself…no wonder they keep half the ruddy lights off!
I’m with you on the bowing Harrier Moggy-BORING!
BUT, remember when you FIRST saw it? There’s many a little kid who’s going to be going ‘Ooh’ at that sight for the very first time!
…but just before you think I’m being all generous and soft for once, I bet that very same kid will be held aloft on his father’s shoulders, who tells him loudly that the Harrier they are looking at is a Hurricane, and the whole family-including the wife who wore her white stillettos and too much gold again-have been camped behind a massive windbreak on the flight line since before dawn; in which case, sod the bloody Harrier!!!
I’ll add my voice to this one, too-come on, you know that we ALL buy ‘Flypast’, at least on a semi-regular basis, so why censor a ‘which mag is best?’ thread?
An answer, please?
Wot, no Blenheim?
Mmmm, lovely, even if it IS that foreign one! Cheers mate! 🙂
You’ve noticed that too, huh? 🙁
Well, maybe if it had two more Merlins and a bit less woodworm…;)
Oh, sorry, I saw the heading ‘a proper aeroplane’ and came in looking for Lancs. I’ll be off again now, bye!!! :p
