RE: Re.surviving Lanc bits
Thanks Ashley!
RE: Flying experience
Although on my last visit to Hendon the sadness of the wreck and what it represents really hit me, I do think a full, genuine Halifax restoration in the UK would be a good thing, and she’d make for great comparison with the Lanc, too.
Your mate with four motors,
Lancman
RE: Lancaster JB659 OF-J
I don’t know the answer to your question, but it’s an interesting one!
RE: One for Lancman
I have no intention of disrupting this forum, never have had-I enjoy it very much. I consider myself semi-regular here as far as posting goes, and I check by and read stuff even more often. If you wish to call people ‘ladies’, please direct it at someone who ONLY comes on here to squabble, thanks!
RE: One for Lancman
At least I DO post about aeroplanes-all you ever do if come on here picking fights, we never see you otherwise. So don’t talk to me about stirring things up!!!
RE: Short Stirling
More of a pamphlet, surely?! 🙂
Re.surviving Lanc bits
I still want to know what happened to the rest of ‘Old Fred’ as displayed in the IWM London-at some point that went from complete aircraft to nose-section only, but where, and when?!
RE: Flying experience
Halibag, what’s it like inside the Hendon Halibag then? I’m surprised they let people inside it actually. I used to have quite a few looks inside Hendon aircraft, like the Sunderland before it went public (you miss so much now from the areas you can’t go in) and of course the Lancaster before they jacked her tail up onto that ridiculous little plinth thing. Spits, B17, Vulcan, Catalina, I’ve been inside a few but only flown (historic-wise that is) in a Tiger Moth and a Rapide.
RE: One for Lancman
Let’s ee if I can safely post without that Indiana-idiot having another go at me now!
Nice pictures everyone! The first one was funny-was she flying backwards, too?!
Thought ‘Battle Stations’ wasn’t bad, although there’s never much new in a Lanc show these days, other than which modern day Lanc they use and what it’s doing! Nice to ‘611 trundling about.
RE: What’s your favourite airshow moment?
By the way, apologies to everyone else that this hardcase-wannabe twit should spoil the tone of an otherwise good topic.
RE: Taxi buccs
It may be one of those already mentioned above, but the Quicksilver world water speed record challenge people have a fully operable Bucc. in their possession, which is serving as an engine run test-bed for now, until Quicksilver itself is ready to receive an engine. The other will remain in the Bucc. as a spare.
RE: RAF Hendon
The hangar is coming over to be part of the totally revamped Hendon when the third building goes up-not sure about the rest.

RE: Lancaster NX 611
Nice one!
RE: What’s your favourite airshow moment?
Not exactly nice, but memorable, was seeng those 2 Mig-29’s collide right in front of me at the IAT a few years back…
…seeing one of ‘558’s last displays, at Wroughton, with the ‘Farewell’ message in the bomb bay…
…seeing the Lancaster lose an engine mid-display and land rather hurriedly at St Athan in ’84…(It was pretending to be a Halifax at the time, of course!)
