RE: Reputation of the Lancaster
Actually, oh liable to spin for no reason one, I HAVE put my views on other aircraft on here before, so there!
Your photo doctoring skills are getting worse.
And stop comparing your lumbering old rusty Hallibags to the RAF’s finest 4-engined bomber of the war. Cheers.
RE: Low Flying
LOL, good man!:-)
RE: Low Flying
That picture looks suspiciously like it’s been doctored to me. Either that, or it’s a Halifax showing off it’s maximum bombing altitude with a full load again!!!
RE: One for Lancman
Ha ha, no mate, I don’t hate everything else! It’s just that sometimes people come along who think there is a Lancaster/Halifax competition, and I have to put a stop to such daft notions-there IS no competition! The Lancaster was a beautiful aeroplane, that was by far the best of it’s type.
If it makes you feel any better, Stirlings often make me chuckle, too!
RE: One for Lancman
Oh, sorry, was this about low flying? I just thought it was another typical Halifax about to dive into the ground for no apparent reason!!!
RE: One for Lancman
I was going to scan in a picture of PA474 at zero feet that was taken years and years ago, but then I realised I didn’t even have to bother doing that.
Two words for you my friend;
DAMS RAID.
Goodnight.
RE: Picture of the day 10/12/01
It’s NOT a Halifax, so I say HURRAH!!!:P
RE: Picture 09/12/01(for Lancman)
Chuckle, no, it’s not a Halifax, it’s the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world…
RE: On the box
I always wonder, can you just imagine what aircraft are lying about at the bottom of the North Sea? If only lost aircraft types could generate the same high-profile interest as famous lost ships for a change, and then maybe we’d finally get to see (And probably laugh at) a Stirling for example.
RE: Picture 09/12/01(for Lancman)
Now, THAT is an aeroplane! Now pay attention all you Fortress and Hallybag fans, THIS is what a decent heavy bomber should look like!
RE: On the box
Aw, cheers Philo! I just thought the daily picture thing was pushing other topics down a bit quickly.
Ant, I know you’re not an expert mate, but you do bother to check these things and let us all know, for which we’re grateful! Last I heard the programme was being re-named ‘Night Flight’ and was going to be on in November…I’m still waiting! It will probably be rubbish anyway, but I just want to see that Lanc at speed up on her tippy-toes…I’m guessing it will be on after Christmas now though at least.
RE: On the box
Great Ant, thanks, but do you know when this Lanc NX611 drama is on? I asked on here recently, but all these fans of the ‘pictures of the day’ are pushing the other posts down the page bloody quickly now!
RE: Lancaster NX611 film
I know mate, but it wasn’t, and now no one seems to know when it will be!
RE: PA474
It’s interesting, are there any other warbirds that have been operated as constantly for so long? There probably are in civilian hands, but surely not in an airforce! I wouldn’t kid myself, but I don’t think even the MoD would ground the Lanc-they’d certainly like to get rid of a few Spits though.
RE: Hendon
Sugar had a pretty good cockpit, so-so navigator’s station, good wireless ops station, so-so nose compartment and no engineer’s panel whatsoever. The rest of the fuselage fittings were pretty scarce, but she still had a lovely atmosphere inside. Structuraly she’s supposed ot be in quite poor condition, so I doubt they’d ever hang her up like an Airfix kit anyway!
