The number will pertain to a specific assembly or sub assembly which may or may not be a complete aircraft.
I could not quite read the inspection stamp lower details but that will tell you where it was built !rgds baz
Can see the little round stamps more clearly now- they say ‘FM 504’.

Somewhat cleaner…
That’s a shame, but not unexpected. Thanks for the info.
I’ve given it a bit of a clean…the top circular stamp seems to say either FM, BM or EM, 804. The faint stamping in the box to the centre of the pic above looks like ‘?&P 112’.
That’s a great start, cheers! Did the following number then pertain to a particular aircraft at all- I don’t just mean the type, I mean an individual airframe?
I remember seeing both the 190 and the 410 as a kid, running on probably the same day as these pictures/video clips. An awesome sight and sound- however Heath Robinson any of the engineering may have been, at the last the guys bothered, and got a good result- highly unlikely to happen again in this day and age of course.
Aw, no- best wishes, Cattermole!
Much as I love vintage glamour, nose art, and a sexy WAAF or whatever, there’s something a bit tacky about this one.
Now there’s a shame- his efforts for the Blenheim alone were superlative. What a shame he didn’t live to see the ‘Mk1’ take to the air. His correspondence in ‘The Forgotten Bomber’ to pilot Roy Pullan still makes for chilling reading, too.
Really appreciate the blanket coverage of all things Duxford in this thread…
Good point- I’ll make sure that the relevant department is prodded with a sharp stick.
Cheers David, much appreciated. :eagerness:
Fleet16b- no need to bite quite so hard, I’m aware of everything you point out. Was just expressing a personal opinion.
It will be interesting to see them together- I’ve always thought that ours was by far the better looking of the two machines though. Hell of an endeavour by the Canadians to fetch it over- I think they were planning it some years ago but changed their minds- hopefully this time it will actually happen. Of course, two Lancs flying together could become a commonplace sight if NX611 takes to the skies in the next few years too!
Can a mod merge the two threads we have on this..?
