Ha!
Actually, studying it again, especially on a less distinct but colour shot of the cockpit, it’s looking as if the inch square ‘plate’ might actually just be scribe marks or similar on the panel- you can just, possibly, make out that the shiny bit is hexagonal, so maybe this was just a simple hole mounted Lucas 3 way switch.
Thanks for the input guys, really appreciate it. It’s just occurred to me though, if that is an inch square front plate visible there, then how is the switch mounted?!
Hmm!
Thank you!
As I said, the switch may just as easily be automtovie, especially as it appears to have a shiny round bezel, but it doesn’t hurt to ask the good folk here just in case!
Anyone?
Bumping this old thread as I’d like to pick people’s brains again please!
Can anyone give any help please with the type of switch in the top right of this photo? It would appear to be about an inch square in the panel, with a short black lever. The switch controlled the water brake on Bluebird, up for up, down for down, and a central resting position as seen here. It may not even be aeronautical- it could be from a car for all we know- but, anyone?
Also, generally, do individual gauges have their own manuals?
The rebuild of Bluebird is going very, very well indeed by the way!
At the risk of being told off for going off-topic again, just wanted to say that I received my DVD from Down Under today, and have just watched it- excellent! Some brilliant camera work in that, and an absolute must for all Lanc enthusiasts.
Now, returning you to FM159! 😎
Nice to finally see one of these fabled replicas. Isn’t it strange to see the old needle-blade props- we’re so used these days to the paddle blades on most Lancs!
Any tips as to where we can get it from?
Doesn’t work for me, what with the other clutter in the place and the Lanc’s tail in the air like that!
I went before Christmas, which was the first time I’d been able to go since the ‘Milestones’ building opened. Saw it as a classic case of ‘ooh, we’ve got some money, let’s do something with it!’ as the selected ‘milestones’ are very hap-hazzard indeed, and really, it’s just a fancy new building in which to put a random selection of their exisiting collection, isn’t it?
I think the BoB Hall stands up well, apart from the lighting and the opening issues re. the mezzanine. The Bomber Hall seems to get increasingly random to me, and seems to be forgetting the ‘RAF’ part of the place somewhat now.
The older side galleries being shut is a disgrace, as is the limited opening of the oldies hanger.
Overall the place has just gotten increasingly random I feel, and rather tatty with it.
Shame.
Excellent, keep up the good work Smudge!
Great pics, thanks!
the latter part suggests the ‘desperation figure’ (my phrasing) is almost certainly less
I will NOT go into details, but I have it on extremely good authority that this is indeed the case.
By the way I will add that I have no problem with Branson and Im not having a go at him personally. In fact what Ive seen of the guy on TV I rather like him and respect highly what he has achieved.
I’d agree with that, too.
Very good counterpoint there, David.
The BBMF is not the place for ‘558, unless the whole thing was re-configured into a more general RAF MF. But even within the service, that’s too much money to find, and I’d be very worried about the effect on the existing BBMF aircraft.
Absolute non-starter, I hope.
Have to agree though, why are the likes of Branson signing letters of support when the change down the back of his sofa would see the tin triangle in the air for a solid year of shows?
