My vote goes to all the usually nameless guys and gals who wield the spanners and the polish up at the BBMF.
Without whom…
What about the hurricane from the bbmf this has just been restored after crashing i dont see many people complaining about public money being used to restore it when there are other examples flying.
Not the same at all. The BBMF were forced to sell another of their aircraft to fund the restoration.
Interesting, I’ve never seen that site before, despite searching the net for info on the Du Cros ‘Spitfire’.
Who runs the site? Clive himself? I heard he’d left his family and gone to live in Spain? Can anyone vouch for the content/quality of the VCD that is being sold there?
The Titanic part-work was awful; also several hundred pound’s worth spread out over a small lifetime or something silly like that! I was one of the first people to complain about it to BBC’s Watchdog actually, as the first run of TV ads for it made no mention whatsoever of the number of issues, and thus the total end cost.
And inevitably, nearly all of these things are mostly rubbish!
True enough mate, but possibly a bit beyond some people!
…but that all depends on the quality of your source VHS, and even then you still have to chop the adverts out of every episode.
Just not as satisfying as a proper DVD release!
I’ll agree with Kev35 there, there’s no need to shout, which typing all in capitals is when online.
This is clearly a very emotive subject, and one that is going around and around in circles.
However, as I have said before, I think that in some cases when an aircraft type touches down for the last time, we should simply accept it. The Vulcan was pants-wettingly great as a display aircraft, but the amount of money being thrown at it and asked for now is pretty disgusting, when compared with what that money could do elsewhere in the preservation/restoration world.
That would be a terrible shame; even speaking as a ‘bomber boy’ myself, I think that was one of, if not possibly THE finest, Battle Of Britain/Spitfire appreciations that I’ve ever seen.
Fair, balanced, emotive…such a shame that ‘Bomber Crew’ wasn’t anywhere near as good.
As an LLA member I have perfect right to express an opinion about where my membership money goes, and as I am a member to directly support the Lanc in particular and the BBMF in general, I am a little mystified as to why the LLA is now putting it’s funds about in this manner. It’s not called the LVA, you know.
So, not ‘tripe’ at all.
I’ll have you know, there’s a dent in the left hand side of S-Sugar’s Elsan that could do with sorting out, too!
As a member of LLA, I think I’d rather all their funding/attention stayed PA474/BBMF-bound, but there you go.
Yeah, that too.
Much as I’d love to see it fly again, I think that sometimes- not always, but sometimes- perhaps we should accept that when something lands for the last time, it’s the LAST time.
(Runs to hide)
No no no, they are all the cars of visitors who arrived one day, and who all decided to wait there until the lighting and the food got better!
Have to say I’m not the least bit surprised that it’s not coming, though I was expecting the reason to be the distance, rather than money.
