Hear, hear.
I too hope that ‘Spitty Ace’ is released, far more in fact than I would the slightly disappointing follow up ‘Bomber Ace’.
I know I say it every time it’s shown/mentioned by somebody, but the memory of being not 10 feet away from the Me410 when it was ground running both engines at St Athan in the 80s brings home to me just how ‘dead’ museum aircraft are.
Man, that thing ROARED!
I too wonder how they will get the Valiant out- I don’t know, but I assume it was ‘built in’ when the Bomber Hall went up, like the Vulcan? One wonders how far a Valiant comes apart, and whether they’ll actually have to gas axe the thing to get it out the back door? And no doubt, poor old Sugar will get shunted aside yet again. Then again, what about the Halifax wreck? You’re telling me they’ll be able to get the Valiant parts past that without disturbing it, too?
*sigh*
Yes, not long after it had been on TV, really. I then saw the odd copy in places like Smiths for a year or two, but have not seen them anywhere since.
LOL @ Cattermole, alive and well there!
I’ve got it on UK-bought VHS, two separate tapes, 3 episodes on each; think it was out as a doublepack, too.
Arrrggghhhh! Another budgie perch!!!!
Excellent pics, of a superb project. Wish it were in the UK, we could do with having a whole Halifax over here!
As a presentation for the masses as it were, I like the ‘Our Finest Hour’ thing, but agree entirely that between shows, it spoils the BoB Hall.
Wish they’d decide whether Sugar’s bomb bay doors are open or closed, grrrr….
To further archieraf’s commets re. the Hendon Halifax, I think a lot of the info boards at Hendon need replacing; when I took my wife there for the first time, that was one of the things that she, as an ordinary punter, picked up on; a lack of info, or at least, a lack of what she wanted to know as a punter.
In the words of one Murray Walker, faaaaaannnTAStic!!!
What an absolutely marvellous sight! 😀
After enjoying the TV version, the best thing about Piece Of Cake is taking the excellent on-screen voices/personas back to the book, where there is so much more going on, and so much more characterisation, but now all nicely given faces/voices by the screen version.
Well following their mess-up with the turret fairing, I’d say they don’t always know best then!
It’s a good point raised about an H2S radome actually; asides from the costs of course, I’ve never quite understood what it is stopping one being made and fitted?
Cheers for the answer, Fluffy; hope BAE get it right this time- third time lucky!
Maybe that round thing in picture 1 is some sort of new air-con fan blower for the hangar? Someone said it was an engine, but I couldn’t see it myself!
