Spending some of my 17th birthday in the cockpit of the mummy of all the bombers, in it’s pre-perch days.
The thing is, these films may be pretty poor quality by most standards, but where else will you get these old guys’ memories down on record? How many of them have passed away since ’87, when I think most of this was filmed?
Thanks for that clarification of all this mess and rubbish, Fluffy; you guys do a brilliant job, and seeing the BBMF doing their thing on TV for D-Day was very moving. Thanks to you and all your colleagues for all that you do ,and better luck soon mate!
A wonderful shot, in both it’s forms; but isn’t it amazing what you can do with images these days?
Thanks mate.
I suspect that your saintly namesake will be finding that his gates have just been oiled…
Crikey, that must be some compact! Great shots, AND she’s a babe, too! 😉
Thank you, Patty and Dave.
Thank you all very much, those kind words are very much appreciated. I would also like to add some further, public thanks, in addition to the private ones I have already sent, to Kev35, for taking the time to send me the very moving private message that he did.
In addition to what I PM’d you Kev, you’ve actually given me another line of thought for the euology that I am currently writing.
Re. the Spit; well, which ever one it was, it’s Merlin was very much appreciated today.
Not the nicest looking Spit cockpit that, is it?
Someone should tell Mr Panton, he’ll never cut his grass with the blades set so high on that green/brown mower!
Hmm, dark, dingy, awkward to move around or sleep in, and you have to pee into a bucket; yup, it’s an Avro caravan!
Re. the first pic in the thread, maybe a copy of the picture sent to EK with a nice letter might make all the difference; caravans are made to be moved, and if that thing is visible from a major vantage point, it DOES mess-up yer photos there.
😮
And there’s still the question of why in particular Duxford would take her in years to come; what happens to their own Vulcan then? Left to rot until the ‘nicer’ ‘558 comes home to roost?
Wonder how much BBMF costs each year then?
We could always compromise and swap them over to 9 red Spitfires then! :p
Nah, no chance; I mean, how would the more knowledgeable of us ever beat the traffic out of an airshow if the Reds weren’t there to distract everybody else? 😉
I think BBMF are pretty steady, too; after all, they committed to the Dakota few years back, have taken on the clipped-wing Spit, and were due to take over the Mossie before she crashed; hardly a unit that’s in danger of being shut!
Yup, got it on tape from the first time, but still sat and watched it again-excellent stuff! Much better than that recent dross on C5.
