Shoreham, Eastbourne, Dunsfold, Bournemouth…. Duxford… looks like those of us in the South East are pretty well catered for!
Please, please, please let the weather and servicability Gods look favourably on at least one of the Shoreham or Eastbourne dates…..
I don’t see Duxford in the list when’s that one… I see Little Gransden Air & Car Show is that as far north as it goes, I’m not that familiar with England’s geography.
I am just amazed and delighted that all these Mk I have been re-created, those shots of the two in flight are an inspiring tribute to the old and new creators.
One of the things that has deterred my attending Old Warden over the last few years is having the military display coincide with other shows I may attend.
I know the aim is the sharing of exhibits between displays but if I see the Military display coincides with Duxford or Shoreham I tend to miss it.
How about spacing the displays a little?
The Military pageant at Old Warden is probably the best airshow in the country if not Europe. The old style Aerodrome feel about the place gives The Shutttleworth Collection a venue that is unique. Also as Robbo demonstrates it’s great for photography and videography
There must be a finite limit to the number of aircraft The Shuttleworth Collection can operate. So what types should they be including in the collection?
Stow Maris may become a competitor of Shuttleworth the general public don’t care if its a replica plans Se5a or an original. Putting some money into quality reproductions has to be a positive step forward and expand an area Shuttleworth do so well the camel cant be the last repo.
Thanks for the “heads-up” on this one. Some really good footage of Gladiators in there.
Thanks the non il2 Stormovik footage is mine here’s more
I dismiss it on the basis that the collection has always flown an eclectic selection of British civil types . An Auster is affordable -significant in its varied uses and simple to maintain.Whilst an Albatross is attractive – it’s not pocket money numbers nor a type that Richard Shuttleworth aspired to.
Eclectic selection of British civil types such as the Bleriot, Deperdussin, and the LVG-6. If Richard Shuttleworth was alive at the end of the war he would have been like a kid in a candy store buying up all sorts. The Shuttlewaffe stimulated a lot of interest in its day, as do visiting Military aircraft. The visit from the Albatros and RE8 was fantastic and would have been even better if the commentator hadn’t waffled through there entire display. The collection needs to constantly look over it shoulder to see where its next paying customer is coming from, as do all attractions. The down side is the work load on the technical staff they can only do so much.
