There was a case ( and others here will know more than me) when the original and weak skins from a flyer project were discarded and acquired by some group or individual, and eventually reconstructed into something substantial enough to cause problems with the owners of the ‘original aeroplane’ as there was a prospect of two airframes wearing the same identity.

This is not welcome or acceptable to anyone owning such a valuable asset, and so any such material, whilst on the face of it useless scrap can not readily be released or dispersed as long as it represents some, or all of the ‘DNA’ of a given aeroplane.

If the Calais wreck were to be reconstructed and put on display, it is obvious what unwelcome observations would soon be made about the machine flying around at Duxford.

There will be counties (most actually) where enthusiasts have neither the preserved aircraft to enjoy, or such dedicated bespoke programming to entertain them, and who must surely wonder at the carping and grizzling that inevitably follows these documentaries. On the Warbirds of India website ( huge country) the flight of a Tiger Moth has been one of the biggest stories of the year.

We have maybe become complacent about the sheer volume of preservation activity to entertain us, which is not to say all criticism should be barred, or discussion discouraged, but the bottom line in we are incredibly lucky. The glass is more than half full !

The ‘vet’s which we have been lucky enough to have join us here have been fascinating an inspirational in their contributions.

We still have a few, thankfully, and should cherish them.
