I have tolerance in abundance. People can worship whomsoever they wish, in whatever manner they choose. They can prostrate themselves before the pixie in the volcano for all I care. I leave them to it.

But some of them don’t want to leave ME alone, and will threaten and bomb and kill, and that threat, to all that we cherish, is real.

If the middle east ‘goes nuclear’ ( Iran/Israel et al ) if may be the start of a process that impacts upon our lives in ways we have barely considered. Do you have to be nuts to buy into the whole ‘Religion deal ‘ ? Not necessarily, but it certainly helps.

But not the Holy Bible…….:rolleyes:Where’s the “balance” there? And I write as an atheist, but intensely dislike the lack of balance, on principle.

Yes, bring back the days of PC McGarry!!:)

    Religion in a nutshell-

My Invisible Friend is better than your invisible friend.

My all-knowing, all seeing Invisible Friend tells me if l know people who do not believe my invisible friend exists, I should smash their brains in.

With all we now know of the world and the universe, when can we finally dump this stone age drivel ?

As I have said on the other thread, I have known GE for 20 years and he is far from the nit-wit the media are so enjoying portraying. He has been overwhelmed, as most people would have been, and arguably has made some errors, or rather, did not instantly stamped on the errors of his staff.

He was paid £300K in his previous position as Head of Vision, was encouraged to put himself forward as a DG candidate, and the rest we know.

He cannot return to his previous position, at which he was highly regarded.
Now without a job, what will he do now? Time will tell. But for reasons way out of proportion to any mistakes on his part, his name will be somewhat toxic, and so the matter of a new position is tricky , to say the least.

So will he drive a bus ? Or head up a charity, or what ? Either way, his ‘pay-off’ is not even two years of his previous salary. He is a modest guy, and lives in an ordinary house in south London, but in the scheme of things, I think he has been screwed over.

    Could be fun.

For anyone who has not been for a few years, there is a lot of new stuff to see.

Thanks to the internet, I can now be outraged 24 hours a day. If I want to be.

    Which I don’t.

    So I’m not.

Funny thing, over on WIX they think FlyPast is tops !

‘Kicks bottom’, I think is the phrase 😉

Alas, poor George. Overwhelmed by events.

But who would not have been. Time for a flurry of P45’s I think….

Perhaps I have just been around for too long and seen it all before but I used to buy several mags a month, Not any more though

    Richard

Same here. I used to get perhaps 4 titles a month, and would count down the days to the new FlyPast. Unlike many other hobbies/interests/obsessions , historic aviation is fast moving, and the news aspect is a fundamental part, from new finds, first flights, mishaps and losses.

For this, the internet just blows the magazines out of the water, with its instant reporting, photos, gossip, rumours- a compelling mix, even more so when you can be part of it. Without the need to pay for the news, there was not enough reason for me to buy mags on the same regular basis.

With a printed magazine you have to pay for it , find time to read it thoroughly, and then store it, and maybe re-read it! All of those processes make demands upon me that I could do without.

It is a shame though, that the outstanding threads that this forum often generates are not saved in a more permanent form. Remember the MH434 colour scheme thread, and the enthusiasm to make it the basis of a book. There was great enthusiasm, but never quite happened, sadly

Here it is, for those who missed it. Hopefully, not too many of the pics have been deleted.

I too am at a bit of a loss to understand the denigration of the efforts of the enthusiastic amateur. I have read some remarkably good well researched stories by such people; and some bad, ill researched and lazy work by ‘professionals’.
    Please do not generalize.

You are right to protest. I was too dismissive. I expect many of us here have had articles published ( me included) and did so with a degree of pride. Many non-pro submissions are very good, and if the money were there, those individuals could probably have an outlet for a lot more output on a more pro footing.

However, a really good writer will outshine the ‘also-rans’, and I am reminded of one flagging aviation journal, the credibility of which is now propped up by a single author.

Thinking specifically about Classic Aircraft, its remit was broadly the post-war era of mainly jets, and of course the post 1945 years have seen a constant contraction and down-sizing of armed forces, a trend still on-going, so essentially the subject matter is ever shrinking, such that we have just 2 combat jet types in the RAF.

We are lucky to have a vintage jet scene, but in when compared to WW2 warbirds, the number of types is modest, with Hunters, Vampires, Sabre, Vulcan ( just) Canberra (?) JP’s, T33, L29,L39 and a few others, barely a dozen.
The USA broadens the scope rather more.

It seems that the era of manned combat aircraft is drawing to a close, but perhaps if we wait just a while we can look forward to the announcement of Drone Monthly, or maybe Classic Unmanned Aerial Vehicles !
