    why?

We’ll, maybe similar operationally, although IIRC it was the K3s involved in Granby was it not?

As for “engineering” interest, the K4 has a very nice conference room/exhibition hall/party room after of the pax bulkhead, but surely the K3’s tank bay would be of greater interest?:)

K.4 ZD241 would be on my list due to its history and having the most hours flown.

K3’s are potentially more interesting, both operationally, and in the engineering sense.

If that’s the case, then perhaps they can also get excited about 1920’s auircraft as well and use what Siskin parts they have to recreate one…

You aren’t trying to spread the rumour that the RAF actually existed in the interwar period?:D

Take a look at the photos of AR501 in Tony Holmes’ “Spitfire: Flying Legend” book.

    Properly “weathered”.

A quick search of the CAA database G-INFO reveals that

Hurricane PZ865 (ex-G-AMAU) had its civilian registration cancelled 19/12/1972, as “to military markings” see http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/HistoricalMaterial/G-AMAU-2.pdf

Spitfire P7350 (ex-G-AWIJ) had its civilian registration cancelled 29/2/1984 as “to Ministry of Defence” see http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/HistoricalMaterial/G-AWIJ.pdf

In other words, as far as the CAA are concerned, these aircraft not currently civil registered, and have not been since 1972 and 1984 respectively

AB910, formerly G-AISU was cancelled even further back. G-INFO has its cancellation as 22/8/55 “converted military markings”.

    Mmm.

Much as admire the sentiment of the project, having seen the reaction from some of “the group” on other sites, I certainly wouldnt part with cash should they ever even come up with a realistic proposal. IMHO asking for donation now was a step too far. Then again, when you have comments along the line of “after all this time you’ve secured an airframe” on the FB group, it kind of sums it up the target audience…

I think that comprises a couple of rusty undercarriage support structures.

It was dug up at Colt just after the base closed.

    Bruce

Somewhere mentioned a spar too. Can’t imagine with fire damage it would have fared well after 55+ yrs underground!

There’s a post on another forum from someone with a fairly close ear to the team, suggesting that the suitably qualified replacement for Flt Lt Stewart was investigated, but for whatever reason couldn’t be released back to the team…

So did the Ten apparently… they still do carry passengers on deployment, even the tankers has the facility to carry passengers,

Certainly the Falklands based jet lets the ’10 hang on the the airliner tag. Just.:D
