Three lining up at Duxford

Taken at Long Beach around 1982-there were at least 6 or 7 others also there-presumably awaiting sale?

Yesterday 19th Sept- Spitfire fueslage on a trailer heading towards London on the A12- near Chelmsford at around 1400. May have been a replica/plastic one etc but wasnt able to see it for long enough to see details .
I had a few aero tows in a glider behind Tiger Moth G-AGYU from Whatfield in Essex (Close to Wattisham)
In the late 60s- (1966/7)
On one occasion remember being airborne in the glider with Heinkel 111s (Casa’s) and 109s (Buchons) and a Mitchell flying not too far away as they were filming the Battle of Britain film in the area.
Spotted an F-86 half way across the North sea on FR24 at 1330-heading towards Clacton/North Essex. Not displaying a reg or call sign-is this on route to Duxford perhaps?.
I went last year but we drove ourselves and on site parking is easy. Its very central to Krakow and would be a short taxi ride or tram ride from anywhere central to the city and about a 20 min drive from Krakow airport.
Its a fantastic day out and its an amazing collection “Mig alley” is a sight for sore eyes-with maybe 20 or more various Migs lined up together.
Doesnt have a place on this forum as far as I am concerned
Hi WJ244
Our paths may have crossed as I too flew in G-AVTK but am not sure who the pilot was on that one (pm me if you need a good photo of it).
I had two top days back then-I had been to the Hanover air show the day before and flew in a very rare piston Porter (D-ELAV) that was doing pleasure flights and the very next day at Southend flew in WDS the Turbo Porter (seem to recall it was an air show or open day at Southend? I later worked there for BAF for a few years.
Think I posted this before but I think it was G-AWDS which had a white spot on the tyres. Ladi used to land on 33/15 and tower used to ask him over the radio how many times the wheels would go round before he managed to stop.
He did an impressive aerobatic dsplay in Blanik glider G-ASVS at obne of the Southend airshows. I never met him but those who did said he was one of aviation’s great characters. Would have loved to have been on that pleasure flight in the Turboporter. My first flight was in the pleasure flights Cherokee Six G-AVTK. I was about 14 and we were standing in the car park. They needed to fill the last seat and I was very surprised when my Mum and Dad succumbed to the sales pitch and sent me on my way.
I had a pleasure flight in G-AWDS Turbo Porter from Southend with him flying. We took off on the taxiway and were airborne in probably less than 100yards-magic.
Does anyone know the Vulcans overhead time. Couldnt get tickets but would like to see it with my Granddaughter
(Me for the last time and her for the first!)-so would try and get to a suitable spot nearby if at all possible.
As l one who couldnt get tickets for Shuttleworth on Sunday-I would still like to see one last display.
My Granddaughter would love to see it too -so does anyone have a planned overhead time at Old Warden and I would do my best to view it from somewhere nearby??
I know the flying in general starts at 1400.
Ive just got in from a few hours at Woburn (back tomorrow for the full day). There was a group of 5 this morning consisting of two cubs/two Tigers and a Stearman-so was likely this same group.
Havent sorted photos out yet-but the first cub was Dutch registered-the Stearman did a touch and go and according to the commentator-then went on to Old Warden.
Saw a similar group last year-so would imagine they are all part of a Dutch group?
Bird strike according to the R/T chatter.
Theres been a Cessna 206 -G-OLLS on floats about a bit “down South” recently -it was at Sywell Aero expo a while back .
Fair chance it was that one as anything on floats in this country is a bit of a rarity?
i thoroughly enjoyed Saturdays show too apart from the constant French jabberings.
Had I been at La Ferte Alais it might have been appropriate but not here!
I respect his knowledge and experience and obvious genuine enthusiasm-but I really dont believe its the right place for him or any other “foreigner” to be commentating . We are celebrating the Battle of Britain -in Britain and at a famous British airfiield-so why a Frenchman doing the commentary!!! The entire commentary had a French “slant” on it and it was at times as if our involvement was minor. He -in not quite these words-claimed that the French air force had shot down so many aircraft prior to the Battle -that it was just a piece of cake for us which was why we won in the end!! Try telling/selling that to our “few” surviving pilots-I am sure they will now be delighted to know just how come they managed to win out in the end!!
I found him patronising and offensive and year after year this debate goes on and yet year after year he comes back like a bad penny. Does anybody responsible for his annual appearance actually read or listen to public opinion.
As with most publicly well known aircraft types there are always going to be different levels of interest.
The majority will just have a vague inkling of a type often misrepresented in press articles ( the aircraft which won the Battle of Britain etc).
Then there will be those that that know a fair bit of general information and have read a lot/frequently visit museums and shows etc to see aircraft of that genre.
Finally you will have those that have immense in depth knowledge -much of it hands on-working on the type and investigating the finer details of individual histories etc .
I doubt there would be very much interest in joining from the majority first named group.
The second named group with general interest might be interested if the aims and publications etc by the society are tailored at the right level (ie not too basic and probably not too in depth and technical either)
Finally the third group who might well be interested but are arguably already in so “deep” with that interest that they are unlikely to learn much they didnt know already?
I consider myself amongst the middle group but would not join any society unless it had the level of interest that was targetted to my general level-too much “geekiness” would put me off straight away -as would a basic level
but I would be interested in reading personal stories from all levels.
