Unbelievable. Seems all because Airbus rejected the swimming pool idea. In an Aeroplane?
Yes I missed that one. Dam if I had known it was for sale I would have put a bid in. 😎
Amazing. Had the alleged Burma spits been found then buried crated aircraft would exist at airfields everywhere and people would be massing to dig them up like rabbits. But as the Burma Spits so far have not been found, its all a myth and that its thought every aircraft scrapped was recycled and disposed of right down to the last rivet. Though personally I know this is not the case. That’s my two pennies worth. :eagerness:
Sadly my own suspision seems to have been confirmed this morning. The autopilot would have flown the aircraft to Duseldorf dispite any theries of decompression. Shortly after reaching 39000 ft, a new heading and slow rate of decent seems to have been selected by one of the pilots overriding the autopilot. My thoughts are with the passengers and crew caught up in this horrific event.
Reminds me of a similar story about Tarrant Rushton Airfield in Dorset the only things left now are two hangars and a memorial.
Yes but what happens about, you enter or whatever at your own risk? Or doesn’t that exist anymore. Its rediculace. if we had stringent H&S Rules 70 years ago there would be no aeroplane’s. Sorry but we cant fly for the Battle of Britain MR Churchill cuz of the H&S rules. Toooo risky!!!
I still prefer the old BOAC, much smarter than the present day BA Livery.
Amazing to think that the 747 was designed to be used originally as a cargo carrier with the compartment in the hump to be used as crew quarters, now its the first class cabin with tickets costing around £12000 to cross the pond.
I visited Flambards in the mid 1970’s. How years of corrosion have since taken its toll. Great the items have found a new home.
Video of Firefly engine restoration. DARRT Mid 1980’s.
Two more photos – quality not so good I’m afraid
Both taken in 1968.
That’s how I remember the colour schemes at Valley late 1960’s. As I remember it they changed to Strike command. The Hunters at CFS, very smart livery but boy were they ear blowingly noisy.
BMW 801 pump rebuid:

Thanks for the link I remember seeing this fuel pump a few years back looks like the restoration work has come to a halt.
Leaving our airfield’s alone. Turning on London could be the German’s biggest blunder. Quote from the BOB Film. As with other UK Cities blitzed the idea being to break the moral of the British people, but it failed to do so. I lived in Plymouth early 1960’s the city centre had been flattened, even then still major bomb damage. Nearby Millbay docks and Devonport dockyard as I remember relatively unscathed. Most military targets where usually on the outskirts of the cities. Although sad to say bombing non military targets such as cities gave time to get the airfields and armament’s establishments back up to strength which it seemed to do.
Fantastic quality pics of the Bosch fuel injection pump Matthias. Brilliant piece of engineering, look so simple in operation compared to a carburettor which to was an impressive piece of kit. Thanks for posting. Any chance of a BMW 801 Pump pic?
Excellent quality pics. The fuel injector pump and the VDM Propeller as new condition. Only ever seen these close up in bad and fragmented condition from crash sights. What a fantastic piece of engineering. Thanks for posting.
Fantastic pics of the DB Engine. It has always amazed me too, those flimsy looking engine mounting brackets holding all that weight, plus a heavy prop and all that torque. How it all stays together. There are some cleaver designer people out there. Even Jet liner engines weighing up to 7 tons held on by 4 small bolts. Just simply mind blowing. Any chance of some fuel injector pump pics please?
Aircraft coming straight down at speed into the sea usually break up on impact end up very fragmented and scattered over a wide area due to sea currents. One media report I read somewhere stated the Aircraft in one piece upside down on the sea bed. This I found hard to believe. Then reports that it could take weeks to find the Flight data recorder and Cockpit voice recorder of which the locator beacon batteries last for 30 days.
