Since the Cobra maneuver appeared for the first time in Paris Lebourget 1989
The YF-17 was doing it long before then.
Do not worry the PAK FA is coming soon
Yes, I’ve seen the artists’ conception drawings. Hmmm…where have I seen that design before?
and the AL-41 has a thrust to weight ratio of 1:10
I would hope it’s better than that, wouldn’t you?
 , a proven tactics by the US since Gulf war to bomb everything with cruise missiles and then send their 100million$ air superiority fighters to secure the area. So far, so good for them.
The first shots of Desert Storm were fired by Apaches, taking out several ground based air defense radar sites.
😀 Cobra, kulbit?…..guys, you have to get used to it, those we have seen fifteen years ago.
That’s true. Of course, ten years before that, we saw the same maneuvers from the X-31, testbed F-16s…hell, the YF-17 was doing Cobras long before anyone knew Pugachev’s name.
Amigos, sory to bust your “US-way-of-thinking” buble but not all future air engagements are going to look like Desert storm … … with no radar cover, no operational AA “umbrella” and so on.
Open a history book sometime. When Desert Storm began, Iraq had one of the most comprehensive, modern integrated air defenses in the world. The only place in the world more heavily defended from air attack than Baghdad might have been Moscow. Overnight, the entire system was utterly and completely destroyed.
Please, try not to be so subjective in your opinion
…said the Pot to the Kettle.
I’m dreaming of F110 engines, glass cockpits and a new radar, can’t keep a good pig down. 😀
Of course, more upgrades to the F-111s may be added in the meantime, reengineering and modernization to form a “Super Pig” of sorts
Maybe something like this! 😀
Hands down, the baddest thing in the air.
Do the aggressor squadron pilots still wear Russian insignia, like they used to?
I remember a documentary I watched about them, I think it might have been Nova on PBS, where one of the aggressor pilots was talking about the lengths they go to in presenting an accurate simulation of Russian (then Soviet) tactics. There were posters of Lenin and other Soviet heroes on the walls of the ready room, red stars everywhere, etc. Then he said something which I still remember:
“We are basically a Soviet fighter squadron. We fly US aircraft, but in my opinion, we execute Soviet tactics better than the Soviets do.”
Perhaps just a bit of pilot bravado, but a great quote nonetheless. :diablo:
And its true, the Eagles look almost factory fresh at probably around 25 years 🙂
That’s one of the things proper funding for maintenance will give you.
If the fight gets in close, to IR-missile or gun range, I’d feel a lot more confident of my survival in the F-5.
Great photo, Flex.
I’ll bet if one were to measure them, even most of the angles would be identical between the two.
Cant it be better than Raptor and excell it in most or all parameters.
In the timeframe they’re talking about, with the budget they’ll likely have to work with…doubtful.
One other thing that no one has really mentioned: The Russians are a very proud people (as they should be). They take their achievements in aerospace technology very seriously, and very personally. With this attitude, does anyone feel that they would actually allow their next-generation fighter to be anything other than a completely native-Russian design? Perhaps I’m way off-base here, but that just strikes me as unlikely.
the KUB airbrake differs, with a distinctive bulge – perhaps even incorporating an intake.
Oh, yeah. In the second picture of yours, that really does look like an intake. 2 intakes, actually.
I’d go with Ferret, like the infamous MiG 35
If you mean the Testors model kit, that was the MiG-37, actually.
Therefore, in places like Texas where the Confederate Flag is ubiquitous, those hating their skin would be more aggressive in this behavior than those Chinese from the coasts.
Based on this statement alone, I’d bet money you’ve never been here (Texas). The Confederate flag isn’t at all ubiquitous. The Texas flag, however, is absolutely everywhere. I’ve visited about half the states in the country, and I’ve never seen any that fly their state flag in more places than we do here.
And Texas is not a racist state; at least, there are no more racist people here than anywhere else. For the most part, we’re Texans first — any other heritage is secondary. And, most people in America find Texas to have some of the friendliest people anywhere.
You can badmouth the US all you want, but when you run down Texas…well, it’s a bit more personal! 😀
And this is about as off-topic as it gets; my apologies.
