Ian, congratulations, very well done. Your appointment can only be good for the future of EF.
Best wishes

bummer to hear that, John. I Know what it feels like. My house was burgled twice last year. Once when I was way on holiday, then again at the end of November. Both times the b”stard (same person both times) got away with all my camera gear and a few other things. Despite DNA evidence and a very good description (the coppers saw him the second time) they still haven’t arrested anyone.
A Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all
A Good New Year to you all.
Merry Christmas to you all, from a snowy Glasgow 🙂
Best Wishes

A 130 mph car that doesn’t … brake is seriously scary.
Ettore Bugatti, when questioned about the poor braking on his cars, is reported to have said: “I make cars to go fast, not to stop”

Andrew, Ian.
some sage advice in the other replies, but the important thing is to go and do it! 🙂 Lots of hard work and I usually feel totally knackered after a lesson, requiring lots of tea and chocolate to recover, but the satisfied glow lasts for ages 😉
Keep us posted

Unfortunately I live too far from OW to assist, but I’d encourage anyone who isn’t yet a member of SVAS to join up. details at http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/svas1/index.html
go on, you know you want to 🙂
From the ANO:
(ii) he may fly such an aeroplane for the purpose of aerial work which consists
of:
(aa) towing a glider in flight; or
(bb) a flight for the purpose of dropping of persons by parachute;
in either case in an aeroplane owned, or operated under arrangements entered
into, by a club of which the holder of the licence and any person carried in the
aircraft or in any glider towed by the aircraft are members.
he being a holder of a Private Pilot’s Licence (Aeroplanes)
So, yes you can do glider towing on a PPL, but not for payment (you can tell I’m studying air law at the moment) 😮

That’s one mighty fine aeroplane. A credit to you, Melvyn.
Melvyn, sorry to hear your news. I’m also open to suggestions for what to do to thieves.
I’ve just had the second break-in at home in 4 months, this time the thief went straight to the cameras, which had only just been replaced by the insurance company.
bummer.

Jan Akkerman?
I remember an artists impression appearing in a RAF yearbook of Concorde in Transport Command markings so yes, there were plans for the RAF to operate a number. Apart from that I know nothing about the details or even how serious the plan was. It was in an era when just about everything was being cancelled that had wings so it probably never stood a chance.
Found this in the RAF Golden Jubilee Souvenir Book 1918-1968
