I remember the first Venom which I loved seeing several times, and I recall seeing it’s rather spectacular crash on TV – I really wonder what the driver of the car it just missed thought! It had the better colour scheme in my opinion too. I saw its remains at Ardmore a few years back. Sad sight. Very glad no-one was hurt, it could have been much worse.

I don’t recall this crash.
What happened to the Venom, Dave ?

NZ beer has moved on since those days.
Steinlager is world-wide acclaimed and DB is a good drop too (my fav).

Is that C-2 actually landing as I notice there’s no arrester hook down ?
Or is it a touch and go ?
Do they always need to use the arrester hook ?

I would have thought the E-2’s Radar may contribute a little to the lift like the E-3 AWAC’s one does.

I read once that a group of people restored a B-36 in the ’70s and nearly got it airworthy when the Military stepped in a quashed their plans.
They believed it would have been a threat to the National Security because of the former capabilities of Nuclear Bomb carrying capacity.

And FiFi the B-29 is different how ? :confused:

That would have been just so awesome to have seen and heard !!

The closest I get to that is turning up the surround sound on Strategic Air Command when the great Jimmy Stewart pilots one up !!!! 🙂

Actually I meant the B-36 (thats right that B-17 called Aluminium Overcast).

Thanks for the pic of the fueslage. I had heard about that one. Looks pretty run down 🙁

Yes. It is very, very big. 😀

I’m absolutely in love with B-36’s so when I get to the States I want to go and see that wheel also (as well as the “Alloy Overcasts” 😀 )

Just getting back to the wheel issue for a sec (honest, only a sec !!)

THe B-36 Peacemaker when first made featured a single massive main wheel (still the largest made for an aircraft) and it was found it could only land at a couple of high strength runways in the US so they changed it to a 4-wheeled smaller-tyred bogie for this particular reason.
