For me, when I was a boy in the 70’s I remember seeing on TV FAA Phantom’s firing 2.75 inch rockets to “Shine on you crazy diamond” by Pink Floyd.

Whenever I play that song, that image comes up.

    Great stuff !!

Oringinally quoted by Andy in Beds

    Hi All

with the V’s on the tails of the aircraft and the twin gun turret in the foreground I pretty sure the second picture is on HMS Victorious. Can anyone confirm if the first picture is the same ship.

Yes it was, in 1958. Apparently, the V-Bombers were doing a simulated attacked on the HMS Victorious.

    Cheers
    Chris

Here’s some interesting pics of a Sea Hawk that’s just ditched after a failed Cat take-off from HMS Bulwark circa. 1962.

I also read that they were a delight to fly and were very popular with the FAA pilots too.

Did the Sea Hawks ever see active duty ?
If so, how did they perform ?

ie one of UK’s smaller wars (Malaya etc)

I also say good luck to them.

    What’s the story with the 2 B-17’s ?

They say on the website only one aircrat was damaged in the forced landings but don’t distingush which one.

I wonder if we could secure the Sea Hawk for Easter as well as the La-9 😀

Seriously though, that is one truly beautiful aircraft.

    While on the P-36ish subject…

I always have like the look of the Seversky P-35.
Great looking aircraft that wan’t successful.
IIRC, i think it also won a Bendix Trophy back in the mid ’30s

…and also the scene right at the beginning where the Catalina is taking off on the water while the 2 fisherman are fishing in the boat oblivious to them being on the amphibian’s runway !!!

It’s a great movie and anyone here at the forum would love it !!
