Sad if true, though I’ve seen no official indication of this yet.
Good news on Wizz Air, though hardly compensation:-
This year’s good news:-
Eastern – Brussells (2 x daily) (w)
Ryanair – Gerona (3 x weekly)
Flyglobsepan – Palma, Alicante, Faro, Malaga (1 base doing 2 x daily runs)
Wizz Air – Warsaw (3 x weekly)
This year’s bad news
Bmi Baby – Withdrawl of 2 aircraft flying to Palma, Alicante, Malaga, Paris, Gatwick, Jersey, Cork, Knock, Newquay
Eastern – Withdrawl of Bristol
Ryanair – Withdrawl of Rome
Ryanair – Reduction in Dublin
Thomsonfly – Removal of base?
KLM – Proposed 4 x daily didn’t materialise.
Despite the good news, this has been a bad year for MME – no question about it. 😡
Yes, an Omni DC10 flies into Teesside most Thursdays & Fridays on troop movements.
Malaysian Airlines are fantastic. Flew on their 744s earlier this year and will again next month to KL and Perth. I believe I’ll get a taste of one of their T7s this time too.
They really are a 5 star airline…in all classes.
Timetable so far is for one based aircraft:-
Monday – Malaga/Palma
Tuesday – Faro
Wednesday – Malaga/Alicante
Thursday – Faro/Alicante
Friday – Malaga/Palma
Saturday – Palma/Malaga
Sunday – Faro/Alicante
With the first flight leaving MME @ 7am and the second destination leaving between 2 and 2.30pm.
Clearly, there is a hole for the second Tuesday run.
Not yet convinced more routes will follow for next summer (despite the press release) – don’t be surprised if its just a one aircraft base for the first year, doubling up in the second.
Prague and Tenerife are obvious choices for any second aircraft, whilst Barcelona may not be as popular a choice for GSM given Ryanair announcing Gerona.
Great news!
From the DTV website this morning:-

The airline recently announced a weekly winter sun flight from Durham Tees Valley to Tenerife commencing on 7th November. This summer programme emphasises their commitment to bring more low-fares flights to the region.
“I am absolutely delighted that we are able to bring the flyglobespan package to Durham Tees Valley in such a widespread manner,” says flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple.

“As well as improving the holiday options for the region, we will also be bringing employment into the area,” says Dalrymple. “We prefer to hire our flight deck personnel and cabin crew members locally and will be starting a recruitment drive immediately. When fully established, the two based aircraft operation will create approximately 60 jobs.

Durham Tees Valley Airport Managing Director Hugh Lang said he was delighted that one of the UK’s fastest growing airlines was making such a strong commitment to the airport and the people of the North East.
Said Mr Lang “I am sure that the news of flyglobespan’s decision to establish a major operation at Durham Tees Valley will be greeted with delight by both the travelling public and our many partner agencies who recognise the importance of the area to the local economy.
“We had already established a relationship with flyglobespan through their decision to begin flights to Tenerife this winter and what I think is particularly pleasing is that the company is clearly committed to working with us to ensure that we are able to offer a wide choice to the kind of destinations which appeal to the travelling public in the North East.
“That bodes very well for the future and I am sure that people in the region, who clearly value their local airport and the services it provides, will demonstrate that by supporting the flyglobespan programme in large numbers.”
And now confirmed officially on GSM’s front page.
At last, some good news!
The Aberdeen flights are now on GSM’s homepage.
I guess that means its official (Ditto MME!).
Got it….thanks!
You beat me to it Tom. 🙂
I can’t seem to play around with the timetables either!
Great news if true, a decent airline at last!!!
Can’t talk…gutted.
Excellent report there….thanks for that. 🙂
Nice to hear one for one of the smaller carriers for a change.
Umble; you did exactly the right thing, you weren’t rude and you sought out the facts. All seems pretty sensible to me.
Let me give you an example of mine from a couple of years ago, well before the latest issues so agitated people weren’t at the forefront of the mind…
I was in JFK at the departure lounge waiting to board a KLM flight back to AMS. In the lounge were two guys, extremely scruffy in appearance and in my eyes, appeared drunk or worse. They were agressive and rude to fellow passengers and they kept moving seats around the lounge, often leaving their bags where they were initially. At one point, both men departed the lounge and left their bags unattended. I waited a few minutes, than quarter of an hour and there was still no sign of them. After around 20 minutes, I went and found a security guy to report the bags. The security guy, and get this, barely raised an eyebrow! He came over and checked and within a few minutes the guys came back; he never even told them off. The guys continued to pester other passengers for change for telephone or a light for their cigarette. When boarding was announced, they went straight to the front of the queue; I nor any of my fellow fliers challenged them. The flight was thankfully uneventful, but in the wee hours in Amsterdam, I saw them barge off the plane in the same rude and unpleasant manner. I personally felt uncomfortable around them and moreso felt unhappy at the lack of concern for their behaviour in the U.S.
It’ll look nothing like that
How typically rude. Nice to see you reciprocate the positive comments people usually give you when you go out of your way to do something.
Nice work Pilotwannabe – looks good.
Hidden amongst the Tommy drivel was some useful stuff here. Suprised to see more 767s going with no news of any firm replacements yet. The widebody fleet is just getting smaller and smaller with already a small number of 763s gone.
Nice to see more 738s coming in; maybe a sign of the times that smaller aircraft are now needed thanks to cheaper competition. Maybe also a sign of more activity at smaller bases; who knows but a surprise interim announcement. A big one can’t be too far away.
It just gets better and better. Looking forward to the MME news that supposedly isn’t too far away…..
