RE: Ministers plan sixth terminal for Heathrow
I can’t see a T6 taking off at Heathrow.
Disappointed there is no major plans to develop Teesside…lol
RE: Your Favorite Jet Airliner
It has to be the A330. Simply – its curves, demeanor and overall generall appearance. I love the ‘downstairs loos’ in the cabins too. I much prefer the A330 to the B777!
RE: Boring spotting day
Thanks Keltic!
RE: JMC and their 330’s
Yeah, I think Ben said I should ask you about JMC T5!!
Whats your experience of them then? Me being a newcomer, I’ve obviously missed something! lol
RE: Monarch
Thanks Saab,
Anyone know what aircraft is doing the MME-LPA run on a Monday?
RE: Britannia
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-07-02 AT 11:37 AM (GMT)]To add a little more detail to my experience:
You always used to get a newspaper on BY – apparently no more.
Our flight attendants were stroppy; e.g. My wife’s headphones didn’t work so we asked for some more. The Stewardness bluntly replied, “well I may as well just be a headphone monitor today eh”.
The cabin interiors were shabby. The arm of the seat in front dropped off nearly a dozen times in the flight. (No exaggeration). They simply looked warn; I’m more referring to AH as this was far worse than AL.
The last time I flew with them – they really proved they were the best and were spotless!
Now Air 2000 (I last used them on a NCL-TFS route in 2000) and they were perfect. A chatty captain (always telling you what was going on and the science of it), great service and clean and tidy aircraft. Also free newspapapers.
Of course I only fly a couple of times a year so cannot really make a fully informed judgement, but, in the experiences I’ve had, Britannia didn’t appear to be as professional as they used to be.
I’m flying next on a JMC A330 later in the Autumn – looking forward to that. Anyone had an experience of JMC’s 330’s yet? Or their service generally? I’ve never flown JMC before though I did fly on an Airtours A330 last year – beautiful aircraft and surprisingly good service.
RE: Charters pulling out….
Thanks for the response Preston.
I do admit, it does seem strange the AEA738’s regularly fly out of LBA with apparently no problems.
RE: A trip back to the archives
Thanks guys.
RE: Charters pulling out….
Wasn’t the reason for the upgrade from 738 to 752 though based on operational reasons rather than demand?
As I understand it, the 738 would struggle at LBA when full of PAX and full of fuel on a hot day due to the short runway. I’m lead to believe that on a number of occassions the 738 would have to take off with less fuel and re-fuel somewhere else (MAN).
The story was the 738 was the ideal size for LBA (or the A320 back in the Transaer seasons) but the 752 was too big.
I don’t know how true this was but it seemed to stack up.
RE: Future of 3 engined commercial liners
The demise of the tri-jet is such a shame, but apparently inevitable.
My only flying experience on a trijet was on Dan Air 727’s back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Would love to fly on an old DC10 or Tristar before they all disappear though.
RE: Why isn’t Teesside bigger than it is?
OK, I understand that there would be little point putting in new competing routes to NCL and LBA because their proximity would mean there is little demand.
My point still remains though about new routes. If a new route or a low cost airline was to base itself in the North East, then with no competition existing from either LBA or NCL in this market, surely choosing a base between the two would encourage PAX from a wider area; i.e. South of Leeds up to the North of Newcastle?
RE: Hello and First Question
LGKR,
I don’t do any spotting though Teesside is my preferred airport.
I’ve never understood why Teesside isn’t bigger than it actually is. It is smack bang in the middle of NCL and LBA and therefore has a decent catchment area. I’d love to see some low cost airlines moving into the area (in addition to the FR Dublins, and GO Stansteds). With no significant low cost operations at any of these airports, surely a base at MME would be marketable.
I do think the market is there but no-one seems to be going for it in the North East.
Any thoughts anyone?
RE: Hi, new to the forum
A fellow A330 newcomer.
I’m not alone.
Welcome on board mate!
RE: Hello and First Question
This leads to my next question I guess.
EGNT? EGNV?
RE: Hello and First Question
Thanks for your responses guys.
Thats a great help!
